Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a crucial summer transfer window after enduring a disappointing Premier League campaign this season. Spurs have consistently struggled to deliver convincing performances, prompting the club to actively look at options to reinforce their squad, particularly in midfield. They are currently 13th in the points table with 34 points in 28 matches and have won 10 matches, with four draws and 14 losses.

In an exclusive interview with Football Insider, former Manchester United and Blackburn scout Mick Brown revealed that Tottenham are strongly interested in securing the signature of Crystal Palace’s rising midfielder Adam Wharton. However, Spurs aren’t alone in their pursuit, as Manchester City are also tracking the talented 21-year-old closely. Scouts from both clubs have been frequently spotted monitoring Wharton’s progress throughout this season, highlighting the intensity of the competition set to unfold for his services this summer.

Despite Tottenham’s strong interest, Brown also revealed that signing Wharton won’t be straightforward. Crystal Palace are determined to hold onto the highly-rated Englishman and have made it clear they’re unwilling to let him go easily. He emphasized that the Eagles view Wharton as integral to their plans and aren’t keen to see him depart without a significant transfer battle.

Nonetheless, Ange Postecoglou is reportedly a huge admirer of Wharton’s qualities and believes the 21-year-old midfielder has the potential to seamlessly fit into Tottenham’s midfield puzzle, providing exactly the balance and composure he seeks to revitalize Spurs’ squad.

Brown said to Football Insider.

I hear Man City and Tottenham have been keeping a close eye on him. I think both of them could look to sign him in the summer if their scouts decide he’s good enough now to make that step up. For me, I had concerns about him when he joined Palace from Blackburn. I know his qualities and what he can do, but I wasn’t completely convinced about how he could deal with the pace of a game when it’s going against him. I’ll give him his due, he’s improved since he’s been at Palace and he’s impressed a lot of people. But from Crystal Palace’s point of view, they don’t want to let him go.”

Wharton has emerged as a standout talent in midfield, consistently demonstrating composure and poise on the ball. His excellent decision-making allows him to control the tempo from the middle, calmly dictating play with precise, intelligent passes. His vision enables him to split opposition lines effectively, creating attacking opportunities through his sharp, forward-thinking distribution.

Defensively, he maintains impressive solidity, showcasing anticipation and positional awareness to disrupt opposing attacks. Averaging high numbers in successful tackles and recoveries, the 21-year-old also possesses a graceful ability to navigate tight spaces, elegantly sidestepping markers with subtle dribbles and refined close control.

How has he fared this season?

Wharton has made 13 appearances in the Premier League this season, steadily becoming a key presence for Crystal Palace in midfield. Although he hasn’t yet contributed directly to goals, his influence extends far beyond statistics. The 21-year-old midfielder has consistently shown maturity, tactical awareness, and calmness under pressure, qualities highly valued by Premier League heavyweights.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Given the immense talent and potential Adam Wharton has displayed at just 21, he certainly represents a promising prospect for Tottenham Hotspur. Yet, acquiring him won’t come cheaply, as Crystal Palace will be understandably reluctant to lose such a vital and gifted young player. Spurs should be prepared to pay a substantial fee if they’re determined to secure Wharton’s services and integrate his impressive talent into Ange Postecoglou’s evolving squad.
