Tottenham Hotspur flop Timo Werner might head back to the Bundesliga.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner has failed to make an impact at N17 ever since his arrival in January, 2024. The Germany international has had limited game time and it is clear to see that he is out of Ange Postecoglou’s long-term plan at the club.

Werner joined the North London club on a loan till the end of last season. But Ange Postecoglou felt that the 29-year-old would be a good option to have around for the current season and Spurs decided to extend the forward’s loan till the end of the current season.

As per Sofascore, the Red Bull Leipzig loanee has featured for Spurs 27 times this season in all competitions and has scored one goal and provided three assists during that time. This is more than enough to prove to Ange that Werner is not a suitable option to have around next season and a permanent deal should be off the table.

The ex-Chelsea player was also criticised for his performance against Rangers in a 1-1 draw in the Europe League by Ange Postecoglou. As transcribed by The BBC, the Tottenham Hotspur manager said,

“When you’ve got 18-year-olds in the squad, this performance is not acceptable to me. I said that to Timo, he’s a German international. In the moment we are in right now, it’s not like we’ve got many options – I need everyone to at least be going out there and trying to give their best. His performance was unacceptable.”

Werner seems likely to return to Germany

Timo Werner will be looking to rejuvenate his career after a run of bad form and lack of match fitness have hampered his progress. Tottenham Hotspur has an option to make the loan deal with Werner permanent in the summer, for a mere £8.5million. However, it has been reported by The Mirror that Spurs are not going to take up that option.

Now it is being reported that the 29-year-old has some suitors in the Bundesliga. German magazine Sport Bild are reporting that Bundesliga teams have some ‘loose’ interest in the Germany international. The magazine also reports that Werner was close to moving to Napoli in January but an injury blocked the move.

A return to the Bundesliga seems like a better option for Werner. The German league is a better fit for his talents and the forwards have more space to run into. Werner also has quite some experience in the Bundesliga and can get his career back on track if he moves away from North London.
