The Tottenham officials could pressurise Cristian Romero to either sign a new contract or get sold this summer
Cristian Romero has been a crucial player for Tottenham Hotspur since his move from Atalanta in 2021, but his consistent injury issues have been frustrating.
Ange Postecoglou’s struggles in the Premier League this season have largely been down to the injury crisis in the backline, with Cristian Romero missing significant chunks of the campaign. The 2022 World Cup winner’s game time has dwindled following a combination of hamstring and quad problems. This led to him missing a total of 27 games since the start of this 2024/25 campaign.
Despite his injury concerns, the Spurs officials are determined to keep the Argentinean centre-back and renew his contract. If he doesn’t agree on fresh terms, the club have now got a plan in place.

According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham have decided to sell Romero if he doesn’t sign a new contract at Hotspur Way by the time the transfer window reopens in the summer. The significant members of the club are set to give the 26-year-old an ‘ultimatum’ as he will be pushed to pen fresh terms or get cash in at the end of the season.
Real Madrid have drawn up a list of centre-back targets and a move for Romero is a concrete possibility. The European champions’ interest in the Argentinean is not new, and while Spurs have massively underperformed this season, he is not pushing to leave the club at this moment in time.
The Cordoba-born star is set to enter the final two years of his contract at the Hotspur Way. The aforementioned report adds Romero is valued at £60million by the Lilywhites amid interest from Real Madrid. The defender doesn’t have a release clause in his contract, and Spurs have now set their price tag for him.

The lowering of valuation has perhaps given Madrid a chance to test Tottenham’s resolve with a bid for Romero in the summer. Any funds raised from the South American’s departure will be reinvested to bolster the squad before the 2025/26 season commences.
The North Londoners are preparing for a busy summer after a torrid season, with radical changes expected to happen in Ange Postecoglou’s roster. If Romero does not agree on a new contract, it would make sense to part ways with him and invest the money in signing his replacement as well as bolstering other areas of the pitch.

The ex-Atalanta man has become unreliable at the club over the last couple of years, as he has been injured a lot and made glaring errors at the back when fit. Before his stock dips further, the club chiefs must cash in on Romero if Madrid comes calling for his signature.
