Real Sociedad eyeing summer deal for Tottenham defensive star not in Postecoglou’s plans

Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilon is attracting interest from Real Sociedad
Tottenham Hotspur will not look back at this season with any fondness, though they still can salvage it to some extent by winning the Europa League.
After advancing past AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, Spurs are now in the quarter-finals which means they are potentially five wins away from winning the continental competition. The club’s failures have seen pressure mount on Ange Postecoglou, who lost his 15th Premier League game of the season on Sunday at Fulham.
Major surgery to the squad is required after a torrid 2024/25 campaign. The club officials have to be ruthless and offload some of the underperforming stars to allow fresh faces to join the squad during the summer transfer window. Amid the planning, one player who looks certain to leave White Hart Lane is Sergio Reguilon.

Sergio Reguilon, who has been a part of the Spurs squad since 2020, will see his contract expire at the end of June. The left-back has spent the last three seasons on loan with Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford. Since returning from Brentford loan, he was completely frozen out of the first-team squad by Ange Postecoglou until mid-December.
A glut of injuries in defence forced Postecoglou to recall the Spaniard into his squad. Reguilon did make a few appearances here and there, but since Destiny Udogie returned from injury last month, he has not got minutes on the pitch. Despite his dip in stock, there has been no shortage of suitors.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Spanish side Real Sociedad are interested in signing Reguilon on a potential free transfer from Tottenham this summer.

Reguilon’s prospects of representing Spain are as good as nothing but he still has got clubs in his homeland interested in securing his services. At 28 and seemingly at the peak of his powers, he is too good to be warming the benches at Tottenham. Instead, he should be playing regularly to resurrect his once promising career.
A possible return to Spain will benefit the left-back. The aforementioned report adds a move back to La Liga and find a stable environment to get his career back on track entices Reguilon.

Despite looking for new employers all last summer and the past winter window, and having been linked to a fair few clubs, the six-cap Spanish international failed to find a new landing spot. Now, he will become a free agent at the end of the season and move on from Spurs which will benefit all parties involved.
