Jordan Ibe regrets not joining Tottenham Hotspur
With the international break in full swing, Ange Postecoglou and his squad have the perfect opportunity to return to the drawing board and experiment with new tactics to salvage the remainder of the season.. potentially by winning the Europa League.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have experienced their fair share of transfer near misses over the years. At one point, they had the chance to sign Eden Hazard under Harry Redknapp, while Bruno Fernandes was close to joining before moving to Manchester United. Now, another star has shared his thoughts on being linked with Spurs earlier in his career.

Back in the mid-2010s, Tottenham tried to sign an interesting prospect from Liverpool. Speaking on Filthy Fellas, Jordon Ibe recounted his career, and he said that before his £15m switch to Bournemouth, Spurs put in a £9m bid for him. Ibe said he was annoyed that he missed the opportunity to join Tottenham — stating he appreciated the idea of playing for the then-manager Mauricio Pochettino, with Tottenham contending near the top of the Premier League at the time.
Fair to say the Lilywhites did not miss out on the Winger
Ibe was disappointed to not make a move to Tottenham but, now we can see Spurs weren’t losing out. He had been a top talent at Liverpool, but he never showed that. When he joined Bournemouth, he only made 14 goal contributions in 92 games. His time at Bournemouth was a reflection of this. The right winger never reached the heights expected, possibly if he had tried.
Speaking on Filthy Fellas, the 29-year-old explained he was gutted to miss out on the N-17
“The thing is like, even Spurs came in for me, which I found out for like nine million. I was vexed. Because obviously, you know it was like a Premier League contender. At the time, it was that Poch team,”
His career trajectory could have been different if Pochettino was still the coach, but it needs to be remembered that Ibe was already part of Eddie Howe’s squad at Bournemouth. Howe is a good manager and is now showing it at Newcastle. If he was unable to get the most out of Ibe, there is no guarantee that Pochettino would be able to do so, even with his history with the player.

A single transfer can sometimes change how a player’s career turns out, and perhaps Ibe’s path in football would have been different had he joined Tottenham instead of Bournemouth. However, looking back now, it’s clear that Spurs didn’t miss out on much.
