Alan Hutton expects Tottenham to bring in help for star who has not been ‘the same’

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to find a conclusion regarding Heung-min Son’s future

Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son has been a loyal servant to the club ever since he arrived back in 2015. The word “legend” gets thrown around too easily in the football world, but it is fair to say that the Spurs No.7 is a legend of the club and has been one of the best players in the club’s history. The South Korean is loved by all the fans and has been performing week in and week out for the Lilywhites.

Son joined the North London club from Bayer Leverkusen and was considered a questionable signing. However, throughout his time at N17, the 32-year-old has proven his doubters wrong time and time again and become a fan favourite. This summer, the Tottenham winger will complete 10 years at the club and that just shows how loyal he has been for the Lilywhites.

Heung-min Son is surely a Tottenham legend

As per Transfermarkt, the South Korea international has scored a staggering 173 goals and provided 96 assists in 448 appearances for Tottenham. These are quite astonishing numbers and shows the impact he has had at N17. The only thing missing in his beautiful chapter in North London is a trophy. The winger has not won any silverware since making his switch to the Premier League and perhaps might never get to experience that feeling.

Heung-min Son is linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur are heading for a major clear-out this summer after a dismal season. The North London club are in the bottom half of the Premier League and many players have not performed to the required levels. Club captain Heung-min Son has been inconsistent this season as well and fans have grown quite frustrated with the lack of positive results.

Now, the South Korean international is linked with a move away from the club. GIVEMESPORT had confirmed in February that Tottenham were open to the idea of letting Son leave in the summer. GMS also confirmed in a separate report that the legendary winger is not an automatic starter under Ange Postecoglou anymore, and the Australian manager has doubts over the impact Son can make.

Son might be heading for the exit at Tottenham

The Spurs No.7 signed a contract extension earlier this year. But it is suggested that was done by the club so that Son did not leave the club for free in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Alan Hutton has his say on the Son situation

Tottenham are in a sticky situation regarding the future of club captain Heung-min Son. The South Korea international has not had a great campaign. As per Sofascore, Son has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 40 games this season. However, the Spurs legend has been very inconsistent and has not been starting week in, week out under Ange Postecoglou.

Alan Hutton has now had his say on Son’s future. Speaking to Betway, Hutton said,

“Unfortunately, it happens to all footballers. As you begin to reach 32, 33, 34, you’re not quite the same. Your body doesn’t recover the same, and it becomes a little bit more difficult. I think you also need to look to the future.”

The experienced pundit added,

“Can they bring somebody in? Not necessarily to instantly replace him, but to lighten the load and help him out a little bit. I would imagine in the summer that they will be looking to strengthen the squad.”

MORE TOTTENHAM NEWS:

Hutton suggested that Heung-min Son has consistently performed for a decade for the Lilywhites. So a drop in form was likely to happen at some stage, and it has unfortunately come right now, when Spurs are in a dire situation. But if the club cannot buy a back-up player for Son, then Hutton suggests that the winger should be sold.
