Blow for Tottenham as Dejan Kulusevski ruled out of the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals vs Eintracht Frankfurt
The injury issues at Tottenham Hotspur have eased off since late February. Ange Postecoglou delivered the latest injury update of his squad earlier this week, hoping to have a few senior players back fit soon.
Richarlison has been training since last week and is close to returning after overcoming a calf problem sustained at the start of February. Fans are also hoping to have Dejan Kulusevski back from injury.
Undoubtedly Spurs’ best player this season, Dejan Kulusevski, picked up a foot injury in March and has subsequently missed the last five games. Before the Europa League second leg of the last-16 tie against AZ Alkmaar, Ange Postecoglou stated that the Sweden international will be back after the international break.

Now with the international break done and dusted and Tottenham preparing for the trip to Chelsea on Thursday evening, Ange Postecoglou has given the latest update on Kulusevski’s injury. He has ruled the 24-year-old playmaker out of the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals against Eintracht Frankfurt next week, although remains hopeful of having him back for the return leg.
“Not the first leg. I’m sure he’ll be pushing for the second leg but… he’s out of the boot that was the first hurdle. Now he’s out there training. It’s just gonna be about how he progresses. We’re talking a couple of weeks, so definitely not the first leg. A chance for the second,” Postecoglou told Football London.
Kulusevski has enjoyed a strong individual season that has seen him register 10 goals and as many assists in 42 outings. The Swede’s performances as an attacking No.8 have been impressive, increasing his output in the final third. He is one of the primary reasons why the club are not worse off than they already are in the Premier League.

Postecoglou’s side have missed the Stockholm-born ace in recent games. Tottenham were crying out for guile and invention in the final third against Fulham before the international break, and a player of Kulusevski’s quality could’ve provided that and helped them get a result at Craven Cottage.

The Scandinavian star’s foot is now out of the protective boot—a sign of progress. As Ange revealed, he will now need at least a couple of weeks to fully heal and get back into action. Hopefully, Kulusevski passes fit in time for the return leg against Frankfurt in Germany on April 18 because we need our best player to participate in our season-defining game.
