Johnny Cardoso delivers potential transfer blow to Tottenham with telling admission

Johnny Cardoso drops a hint about future but Tottenham won’t be losing sleep over it
Tottenham’s season has not gone to plan, and with a number of players heading out and Ange Postecoglou to leave regardless of a Europa League victory, there are existing plans to overhaul what’s likely to be a summer of weakness for the club. Spurs had been considering top talented USA International, Johnny Cardoso, who is currently on loan. But the CDM has just made a statement regarding his intentions going forward that may scupper Tottenham’s attempts to snag him this summer.

Johnny Cardoso has been in outstanding form for Real Betis in recent months, catching the attention of Tottenham’s hierarchy, who are said to be highly impressed with his development.
The USA international has firmly established himself as one of La Liga’s standout midfielders this season. Given Tottenham’s struggles in the middle of the park, it’s hard to imagine the club passing up the opportunity to land a top-level talent for a relatively modest fee.
What’s even more surprising is how much Cardoso has evolved his game .. not only has he been a defensive rock for Betis, but he’s also chipped in with four goal contributions, showcasing progressive play typically expected from an attacking midfielder.
The USA International is said to be Spurs-bound bound
It is clear that even if Tottenham Hotspur chose to go ahead with activating the release clause, they would still have to have Johnny Cardoso’s consent in order for the deal to be finalized .. and his latest admission raises alarm bells for the club. The 23-year-old made it clear that he wants to stay at Real Betis for the long term.
Cardoso told El Chiringuito (as relayed by Estadio Deportivo), when asked about his future
“I’m very happy here and I hope I can continue enjoying myself at Betis for many years to come. The Champions League? It’s our dream and our goal.”

Despite the midfielder’s recent comments potentially causing some concern, Tottenham are unlikely to be overly worried. Multiple Spanish reports in recent weeks suggest that Real Betis are counting on Spurs activating their option to sign Cardoso. With Betis reportedly facing financial challenges, they are believed to be depending on the American’s sale to strengthen their financial position.
