The performance of Tottenham Hotspur star fullback Pedro Porro against Southampton in the 3-1 victory is a much-needed confidence boost. Porro has struggled with inconsistencies in recent months, playing only for two minutes in the previous two Premier League games.
Spurs bounced back from their defeat against Chelsea after the March international break as the Europa League returns in midweek. The Lilywhites have the potential to win the Europa League despite their miserable season, currently 14th in the Premier League.
Spurs will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League Quarter-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The victory against the Saints should act as a positive momentum for Ange Postecoglou’s men, as they seek some redemption.

An injury crisis is one big mitigating factor amid Tottenham’s misery but key players like Porro need to take accountability. The Spanish international has appeared in 43 games in all competitions this season, providing two goals and seven assists.
While Porro and his teammates have done well in offence, the defensive fragility remained a constant concern and the source of their downfall. According to FotMob, Porro completed 41 out of 53 passes with 77% passing accuracy for Tottenham against Southampton.
The 25-year-old created three chances, along with two accurate crosses and six accurate long balls while having 86 touches. Furthermore, the Spanish international won eight out of 14 duels while committing three fouls and earning four fouls as well.
Defensively, Porro enjoyed 67% tackling accuracy by winning two out of three tackles and making two blocks and one interception. Furthermore, the Spaniard made four clearances while also making three clearances from headers against a physically strong side.

The 25-year-old also made five recoveries and completed 13 defensive actions during his all-round performance for the Lilywhites. Porro’s consistency is pivotal for any potential success that Spurs could achieve in the remaining season. While the confidence is low, as long as there is a chance to win the Europa League, the club should push forward.
