Dejan Kulusevski is set to be available for Tottenham’s second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Tottenham Hotspur were frustratingly held to a 1-1 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at home on Thursday evening.
This means a victory is needed in Germany next week, and if Spurs fails to advance to the semi-finals of the Europa League, Ange Postecoglou’s position at the club would be further scrutinised. While they weren’t beaten, a 1-1 draw is a more favourable result for Eintracht Frankfurt than the North Londoners.
One thing that would have pleased Ange Postecoglou was his team’s display in midweek. Tottenham were dominant and created enough chances to walk away with a win. However, with Son Heung-min and Dominic Solanke enduring quiet nights, the Lilywhites would be hoping to find an inspiration from elsewhere when they travel to Deutsche Bank Park next week.

Hopefully, Dejan Kulusevski could turn out to be that player. The Swedish international has been out since the beginning of March with a foot problem that has caused him to miss Spurs’ last seven games across all competitions.
Last week, Postecoglou revealed that the attacking midfielder was “progressing well” in his recovery, but ruled him out of the first leg vs Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. On Thursday, the Tottenham boss gave a positive update on Dejan Kulusevski’s recovery from a foot injury.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Wolves at Molineux, Ange was asked to give the latest update on Kulusevski.
“He’s trained today with the guys who didn’t play last night. He’s looking good. He won’t be available for Sunday, but the plan is for him to train through this weekend, train with the first team from the beginning of the week and, if he gets through that, he’ll definitely be available for Thursday. Again, it will be unlikely he’ll be able to start, because he’s been out for a while, but he looks really good,” Postecoglou told the club’s official website.

Having Kulusevski back for the second leg would be a massive boost for Spurs. The influential Swede, who has 10 goals and as many assists in 42 games, has returned to training, which will be a great sight for the fans. He has been the club’s best player in an otherwise chaotic season, thriving in a newfound central attacking midfielder’s role in Ange’s high-pressing system.
Even if he is unlikely to be fit to start in Germany, Kulusevski being an option off the bench would be such a plus for Ange. Hopefully, the Stockholm-born star continues to train well in the upcoming days and gets ready for action for the club’s biggest game of the season at Deutsche Bank Park.
