Man City faces an uphill battle to sign €45m Spurs star

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie to bolster their defence during the summer transfer window. The Italy international has competed with Djed Spence for the left-back position due to nagging fitness issues and inconsistent performances.

Nevertheless, Udogie has enjoyed a good reputation as an attacking fullback after permanently joining the Lilywhites during the 2023-24 season. Spurs have not enjoyed a good season under their Australian manager Ange Postecoglou, currently 14th in the Premier League table.

The Europa League remains their only chance to salvage something out of the dreadful season and finish the campaign strongly. Spurs drew Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 in the first leg of the Europa League Quarter-finals tie at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Udogie started the game, playing until the 79th minute before Spence substituted him after a decent outing for the Italian. Despite the 22-year-old left-back’s position in the senior squad, his future remains uncertain with the summer transfer window approaching soon.

Fichajes reported that Man City boss Guardiola wants Udogie from Tottenham to bolster his defence during the summer transfer window. The Citizens have also struggled immensely this season with their regular players ageing past their peak years.

While the potential deal could put Udogie against Josko Gvardiol, there is a high likelihood that the Croatian will shift centrally. According to Transfermarkt, the current market value of Udogie is €45m but Spurs should demand a much higher transfer fee.

At 22 years of age, Udogie is still a young prospect with immense potential and already governing a decent experience. Furthermore, Spurs cannot afford to lose quality unless they could replace the player immediately in the transfer market.

The potential of losing Udogie could only happen if the Italian demands his sale, given the better position the Citizens are in the Premier League compared to the Lilywhites. Nevertheless, Spurs have every intention to return to the top half of the table as quickly as possible.
