Timo Werner is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer
Tottenham Hotspur’s frustrating campaign, currently sitting 14th in the Premier League and already out of domestic cup competitions, has fueled expectations of a major summer overhaul at N17. One player almost certain to depart is Timo Werner. The German forward, who joined on loan from RB Leipzig in January, has failed to make a lasting impression during his short stint in North London.
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via X, Spurs have decided against activating the buy option included in the deal, meaning Werner will return to Leipzig when his loan expires in June.

Werner is expected to assess his future once he returns to RB Leipzig this summer, with just 12 months remaining on his current contract. The 29-year-old made the switch to Tottenham in January last year, hoping to revive his form in the Premier League. However, his time at N17 has been underwhelming.
In total, Werner managed three goals and six assists across 41 appearances in all competitions, a return that falls short of expectations for a forward of his calibre. Persistent injury problems plagued his stint in North London, a recurring issue that has also impacted several of Spurs’ other attacking players, including Richarlison.
The German did not go through the best of the times at N-17
Fabrizio Romano confirmed via X that Tottenham have officially decided against retaining Timo Werner beyond his loan spell, with the German international set to return to RB Leipzig at the end of the season. Despite being labelled as a ‘fantastic’ addition at the time of his arrival, Werner has struggled to cement a consistent role under Ange Postecoglou.
The 29-year-old has made just 10 starts in all competitions, along with 17 appearances off the bench, underlining his peripheral status in the squad. His last start in the Premier League came in the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, and he has featured just once as a substitute since then, further signalling his fall down the pecking order.
The Esteemed Journo writing in his X, clarified the situation on Werner
“Tottenham position has not changed: Spurs won’t sign Timo Werner on permanent deal from RB Leipzig. He’s gonna leave #THFC in June, return to Leipzig and assess new club options, as he’s expected to leave the German side again.”

Tottenham also face a looming decision regarding Mathys Tel, whose loan from Bayern Munich last July included a €60 million (£51 million) buy option. While the 19-year-old forward arrived with high expectations, his adaptation to the Premier League has been mixed. With Spurs’ summer transfer plans heavily reliant on securing European qualification, there’s no guarantee that the club will commit to such a hefty investment.
Tel himself appears more comfortable in Germany, and his underwhelming impact in North London has led to growing speculation that a return to Bayern, or another Bundesliga side, could be the most likely outcome. Together with Timo Werner’s expected departure, Tottenham’s attack is set for a reshuffle, and all eyes will be on how Ange Postecoglou and the board navigate what promises to be a pivotal transfer window.
