Tottenham were among several clubs that scouted Lyon star Rayan Cherki vs Manchester United in the Europa League
It’s been far from a memorable campaign for Tottenham Hotspur. Injuries to key personnel have disrupted the team’s development and consistency, leaving Ange Postecoglou with a thin and often imbalanced squad.
The lack of depth in different areas of the pitch has only added to the challenges, making it an uphill battle for the Australian tactician, as he fights not only for results but also for his long-term future at White Hart Lane.
Spurs are said to be in the market already to bolster their attack for next season. With the Lilywhites not managing to find the back of the net regularly, Daniel Levy has decided to bring in a versatile attacker during the forthcoming summer transfer window and improve the chances of having a better 2025/26 season.

Tottenham have been reportedly keeping tabs on Lyon star Rayan Cherki. The French-born Algerian, who has long been rated as one of the brightest prospects in European football, has not yet managed to live up to his high potential at Lyon. Things have been different this season, though, with the 21-year-old delivering some high-quality performances. Compared to the iconic Lionel Messi, the Frenchman’s talent is beyond question.
According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Spurs were among a host of clubs to have their scouts in attendance on Thursday evening to watch Rayan Cherki in action against Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at the Groupama Stadium. The playmaker had a quiet outing as per his standards, but came with the clutch equaliser in the dying seconds of stoppage time.
With the strike against Man United, the France youth international took his tally to 10 goals for the season. The Lyon playmaker has also supplied an impressive 18 assists in 37 outings across all competitions, underlining why he is rated so highly across the continent.

The aforementioned report adds the scouts present at the Groupama Stadium in midweek ‘love Cherki’ and wonder just ‘how good he could become’. As the flexible forward will enter the final 12 months of his contract at the end of June, the Ligue 1 outfit are looking for around £25-30million for him. Such a bargain price has put several European clubs on red alert.
Tottenham remain keen on Cherki, who’d be an excellent addition to Ange Postecoglou’s roster. Due to his ability to play out wide and centrally as a No.10, the Lyon academy graduate could influence Spurs’ play in the final third and add more potency. At 21, the France Under-21 international would also fit the category of signings Levy has been making in recent years, whilst a strong option to challenge James Maddison for a starting berth.

However, given his talent, potential and bargain price tag, competition for the player has only been rising. This would make it difficult for Levy to lure a top talent like Cherki to N17, but not impossible.
