Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou looks at the positives from the empathic defeat against Wolves as Eintracht Frankfurt clash awaits. Spurs lost the Premier League away game 4-2 against Wolves while resting some of their key players during the game.
Mickey Van de Ven, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie remained unused substitutes while Dejan Kulusevski and Richardlison made late cameos. The Lilywhites drew 1-1 in the first leg of the Europa League tie against Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Europa League competition remains the last hope for Postecoglou to salvage something out of the miserable season for Spurs. Tottenham are currently 15th in the Premier League table and have no hope to achieve anything worthwhile at this point.

Therefore, the potential Europa League victory is their ticket to next season’s Champions League football, an essential and attainable target. However, Spurs cannot play the way they did against Wolves and expect a better result against the in-form German club.
Speaking to Tottenham Hotspurs’ official sites’ Review Show, Postecoglou shared the positives from the Wolves loss, hoping for a different result against Frankfurt. He said:
“Like I said, for the most part I thought our football was good. In the second half, we had to chase the game a bit, I thought we did that really well, got ourselves into a great position at 2-1 but conceded straight away, then back to 3-2, then we conceded again. From our perspective, we understand why we lost today, but in general, the effort wasn’t too bad.”
Tottenham conceded an early goal against Wolves, courtesy of a fine 2nd-minute strike from Rayan Ait Nouri. Wolves added another goal in the 38th minute through an own goal from Djed Spence, continuing Spurs’ nightmare first half.
However, Mathys Tel led a fightback with a 59th-minute goal for the Lilywhites to take the scoreline to 2-1. Wolves fought back immediately as Strand Larsen scored a 64th-minute goal to make the scoreline 3-1.

Substitute Richardlison scored an 85th-minute goal to start another comeback, only to see Matheus Cunha score immediately for the Wolves in the 86th minute of the game. While Tottenham showed a constant desire to fight back, they need to improve upon their defensive vulnerabilities.
