Ange Postecoglou could be fired as early as this week should Tottenham suffer Europa League elimination at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt
Ange Postecoglou will be looking over his shoulders as Tottenham Hotspur face Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals in Germany on Thursday evening.
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the quarter-finals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week. They produced a dominating performance throughout the 90 minutes and carved open the Frankfurt defence multiple times, but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal. The Frankfurt goalkeeper made some fantastic saves in both halves to restrict the North London club, meaning the tie will be decided at the Deutsche Bank Park.
Ange Postecoglou and Co. had the worst of preparations for the crucial second leg. They were beaten 4-2 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Sunday, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and defender Cristian Romero enduring torrid afternoons. The walls are coming crashing down at White Hart Lane, with Ange’s side currently sitting 15th in the table, having lost a staggering 17 games in the Premier League alone so far.

Reports now suggest that the Australian tactician’s position has become untenable at Spurs, with his relationship not only strained with the board but also fractured beyond repair with the loyal fans. Dumped out from both domestic competitions in February and staring at a potential exit in Europe, the pressure on Ange has truly reached a boiling point.
Now, according to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Postecoglou’s exit from Tottenham could be sealed as soon as this week should they suffer defeat at Frankfurt in the Europa League. The Lilywhites must win the continental competition in May to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and for the 59-year-old head coach to have any chance of keeping hold of his job.
Ange has a contract at Tottenham until June 2027, but his fate is expected to be decided this week itself if his team drops out of the Europa League. A concrete decision could be made at the North London club to appoint a new manager to replace the Greece-born Australian.

It seems as though chairman Daniel Levy is planning for the club’s future without Ange at the helm, with Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva both linked to take over. Daniel Levy and his team are finding it difficult to keep the former Celtic boss in the job beyond this campaign.

Big Ange has a chance to bring silverware back to North London and end the club’s long trophy drought, with Tottenham just one game away from a Europa League semi-final, but with the team not progressing in the Premier League for several months now, his future looks bleak. If the aforementioned report is true, it signals a planned move from Levy, who appears determined to retune the Spurs’ direction once more amid growing unrest in the stadium and evident problems on the pitch.
All in all, regardless of whatever outcome we witness after the Frankfurt clash on Thursday evening, the club should part ways with Ange.
