English star’s presence expected to roadblock Tottenham move for Brazilian attacker

Tottenham Hotspur are among several Premier League clubs keen to sign Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz

Tottenham Hotspur are facing a massive summer transfer window that could see some changes being made to their squad after a forgettable season.

A striker is expected to be targeted after Spurs’ failure to find a consistent source of goals. Expectations were high from Dominic Solanke after the club broke their club transfer record to sign him from Premier League rivals Bournemouth last summer. However, Solanke has had a mixed debut season in North London, with a knee injury keeping him out for over a month and disrupting his rhythm.

Son Heung-min appears to be past his best now, having struggled to deliver productive performances, while Richarlison could be moved on this summer amid links with former club Everton.

As a result, the Hotspur Way chiefs have been scouring the market for reinforcements up top. Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz has reportedly emerged as a target for Spurs ahead of the forthcoming summer transfer window.

The Ange Postecoglou-managed club are thinking about making a move for the 23-year-old centre-forward, but the Cottagers are determined to keep hold of him. It has been claimed that Fulham have no intention of selling the South American and view him as a £50million talent due to his potential, age, profile and style of play.

Rodrigo Muniz has worked his way onto the radar of Fulham’s Premier League counterparts with a series of impressive goal-scoring displays. He has made considerable progress in West London since a loan spell with Championship outfit Middlesbrough in the 2022/23 campaign. The Brazilian international has netted eight goals in 31 Premier League appearances thus far, including the winner against Liverpool earlier this month.

However, Spurs’ podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham thinks that the presence of Solanke would prevent the signing of Muniz happening in the summer.

“His goal against Liverpool recently was fantastic,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I would like him at Tottenham. However, I don’t see him coming to a club that already invested big money in a striker just last summer. I believe that Solanke will be our first-choice striker next season.

“Therefore, I think Muniz would prefer to go somewhere where he would be the number one striker or to a club who have European football and will be rotating more often. It doesn’t look like Spurs will be able to offer that next season.”

Indeed, Tottenham invested big to sign Solanke last summer, and he will be our first-choice No.9 next season as well. Daniel Levy is very unlikely to give up on the Englishman after just one season, especially when he has had plenty of bright moments and displayed potential to serve the club for many years to come.

Spurs desperately need to bolster their attack in the coming months, and finding a reliable back-up for Solanke has to be a priority. Muniz, in this regard, would fit the bill, though, at 23, he would want to play regularly and not be someone’s backup. Thus, he may avoid joining the Lilywhites even if Fulham greenlights a move.

From Tottenham’s point of view, it does not make sense to splash big on a striker for a potential Solanke backup. Levy needs to find a budgetary option who can not only cover for the England international, but also compete with him for a spot in the first XI next term.
