Tottenham backed to hold out for £60m+ as Manchester City eye summer raid

Manchester City are showing an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie.

Manchester City are planning to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie

With the season having entered its business end, the onus will be on Daniel Levy to decide whether he wants to stick with Ange Postecoglou for another year or part ways.

With our season likely set to hinge on the outcome of the Europa League campaign, which is currently on balance following a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the quarter-finals, it is imperative that Ange Postecoglou has a healthy squad at his disposal to see us go all the way.

Amid a chaotic season, though, there are a few Spurs players attracting interest from elsewhere. One of those is Destiny Udogie.

The Tottenham left-back has emerged as a target for Manchester City ahead of the summer transfer window. Pep Guardiola wants the full-back to bolster Man City’s defensive ranks, with new sporting director Hugo Viana said to be a long-time admirer of the 22-year-old.

However, the Lilywhites are adamant that they do not want to sell Destiny Udogie. Daniel Levy will reportedly only be ready to sell the defender if his club do get a sizeable offer from Man City. Reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham shares similar thoughts to that of Levy. He thinks Tottenham are expected to demand more than £60million to sell the Italy international this summer.

“I think fans are quick to remember the Udogie from this season,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“However, last season, he was in many people’s Premier League Team of the Year. He was getting goals, and I had lots of friends of mine who support other clubs raving about him to me.

“For whatever reason, this season has been a disaster. However, I would not be looking to sell Udogie. I think that under a different manager, he could establish himself. Therefore, there are plenty of players I would sell before him.

“He’s at the right age; he’s got Premier League experience and a contract until 20230. I’ve seen some people putting ridiculously low values on him. I think Tottenham would demand north of £60million, and even then, I wouldn’t sell him.”

If City show concrete interest in Udogie, Tottenham would be well within their rights to ask for a premium. The Verona-born talent is only 22 and Premier League experienced with huge potential, so it is not rocket-science why Guardiola and City want to add such a player to their defensive ranks.

Udogie has had an average second season in North London, failing to build on his impressive debut year. He has also had injury troubles, impacting his rhythm and performance levels. Yet, the Italian’s stock remains high. Thus, Tottenham must look to resist offers for him in the summer.

Should the Lilywhites get an offer above £60million from City, Levy may then contemplate selling Udogie, provided a quality replacement is lined up.
