Tottenham star keen to deliver after ‘difficult’ first season under Ange Postecoglou

Dominic Solanke will hope to make an impact in the upcoming season-defining games for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke is enduring a stop-start first season at the club. The England international joined the Lilywhites after a brilliant season at Bournemouth last year, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists in 42 games for the Cherries. However, the 27-year-old has failed to replicate the same in his first at North London.

The talented striker has just not got going this season due to injuries, something which other key players have also endured this campaign. The Spurs No.19 has now gone eleven games without a goal in all competitions and has failed to make a regular impact in the team. The Lilywhites also signed a replacement striker in the January transfer window, as Solanke was not able to stay fit for a stretch of games.

With the club in the spotlight in recent months, key players have failed to step up. Spurs sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table and are on course to finish the season with their lowest-ever points tally. However, the Lilywhites are still in contention to win the Europa League and have managed to keep their hopes of playing Champions League football next season alive.

Dominic Solanke talks about his first season at Tottenham

When Dominic Solanke arrived at Hotspur Way last summer, it was seen as a very smart signing by the club, as he fit perfectly into Ange Postecoglou’s system. However, it has not been a season to remember for the 27-year-old as he continues to struggle with injuries. As per Sofascore, the England international has played 37 games in all competitions this season, scoring just eleven goals and providing eight assists in that time.

Now reflecting on how his first season at N17 has gone, Solanke told Sky Sports,

“It’s been a difficult season for me. A few injuries halted my progression and form but I would obviously want to score more goals. But yeah it’s been a difficult season for me and the team, but we still got some more important games and hopefully I score some big goals in those.”

The former Bournemouth player was quite honest about his tough season and admitted that several injuries halted his development at the club. However, Solanke remains optimistic in helping the team during this crucial part of the campaign as Tottenham fight to keep their hopes of winning a trophy alive.

The Spurs forward still has time to make his first season at N17 successful, and if he manages to help the team progress through to the next round of the Europa League, it will be seen as a turning point in the England international’s career at Tottenham. The fans will also hope that their star striker will turn up in the upcoming games and prove his worth.
