Tottenham must battle against Newcastle United and West Ham for the signing of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw
Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive fragility have been one of the key contributors to their underwhelming season.
Conceding soft goals and errors at the back continues to define their turbulent campaign, with the latest setback coming in the 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday in the Premier League. Both Guglielmo Vicario and Cristian Romero were at fault for three of Spurs’ four goals at Wolves.
As the summer transfer window looms, major changes are expected at N17, especially in defence. The North London club is determined to restore stability and make tangible progress next season. The upcoming decisions, from key signings to departures, will define the early trajectory of the potential new head coach. Thus, Daniel Levy must make smart, decisive moves to stem the downward spiral and lay the foundation for a bright future.

Now, according to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham are set to battle Premier League rivals Newcastle United and West Ham United for the signing of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw. The 23-year-old is thinking about a potential move away from Serie A, despite being settled and happy at AC Milan.
Having swapped FC Schalke for AC Milan in 2022, Malick Thiaw has racked up over 80 appearances for the Italian club. Amid an ongoing chaotic campaign that currently sees the Rossoneri ninth in Serie A, the three-cap Germany international has continued to get regular minutes. He has made 29 appearances across all competitions, registering a goal and an assist apiece thus far.
The aforementioned report adds that whoever is Milan’s next coach could have a huge bearing on Thiaw’s future. Sergio Conceicao has struggled to stamp his authority since replacing Paulo Fonseca at the club’s helm, with neither progress being made nor results improving. Nonetheless, the Premier League troika like Thiaw and could make a move for him.

Rated as one of the ‘greatest talents in Europe’ in 2023 by German publication BILD, the Germany international would be a smashing fit at Tottenham. Capable of operating both at centre-back and right-back, the Dusseldorf native has already displayed immense quality on the ball and the ability to thrive against physically dominant opponents at Milan. Spurs could actually contemplate Thiaw as an option to potentially replace Romero, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Atletico Madrid.

However, the jump from Serie A to the Premier League poses a daunting task for the 23-year-old. At the same time, Tottenham cannot afford to get their recruitment wrong this time after a dismal campaign. While Thiaw remains content with life in Milan, he represents the type of long-term investment Spurs hope will pay dividends in the coming years.
