Tottenham technical director Johan Lange holds talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over goalkeeper Kaua Santos
Tottenham Hotspur managed a 1-1 draw at home against Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals last week. They followed it up with a dismal 4-2 Premier League defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Sunday afternoon.
Guglielmo Vicario had endured a tough afternoon against Wolves. His flailing attempts at saves sank Ange Postecoglou’s side to a 4-2 defeat, as the first two goals the home side scored were almost entirely down to catastrophic goalkeeping errors from the Italian international. As a result, he unsurprisingly attracted a lot of criticism after the Wolves defeat.
While Guglielmo Vicario is anticipated to keep his place in between the sticks for the upcoming second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday evening, there remains considerable uncertainty regarding his long-term role at the club.
According to a report from German publication Sport Bild, Tottenham have opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt for goalkeeper Kaua Santos. It is claimed that the club bosses were left very impressed by how the Brazilian performed against them last week, making a series of fantastic stops to help Frankfurt hold the North Londoners to a 1-1 draw.
Kaua Santos made five incredible saves in total on Thursday night, all from shots inside the box—most notably from Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven in the second half. He is the primary reason why the German side are still alive in the Europa League tie.
The aforementioned report adds Tottenham technical director Johan Lange immediately began talks with Frankfurt officials regarding the 22-year-old after witnessing his excellent performance in between the sticks live from the stands. The South American glovesman recently signed a new contract until 2030, so the Bundesliga side values him at €60m.
Tottenham realistically would not want to spend on a new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window, having only signed Antonin Kinsky a few months back. The North Londoners have many other positions to prioritize before they could converse about the goalkeeping situation during the summer.

However, patience perhaps is running out on Vicario, who has faced severe criticism since he arrived at Spurs in 2023 as the successor to the 2018 World Cup winner Hugo Lloris. If the Italian makes more errors in the remaining season, the club’s stance could drastically change. However, given Santos’ high valuation, Tottenham must seek cheaper alternatives if they decide to go for a new No.1 before the 2025/26 season commences.
