Tottenham Hotspur face stiff competition from European clubs for the signing of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw
Tottenham Hotspur have found it difficult to build momentum this season, with inconsistency and injury issues plaguing their campaign. The Lilywhites have struggled to stitch positive results together, leaving them stuck in the bottom half of the Premier League table for months now.
It is no coincidence that Spurs’ most complete performance since the turn of the year came when the majority of their key players were finally fit and available for selection. They have endured an unfortunate glut of injuries this season, particularly in defence, which has heavily impacted Ange Postecoglou’s side’s consistency and results.
With a major squad overhaul on the horizon, the Hotspur Way chiefs have to be smart in the market. Defensive reinforcements have to be prioritised over other areas of the squad. And it looks like they have started identifying their summer targets from now onward.

AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw has reportedly emerged as a target for Tottenham, who face a battle against Premier League rivals Newcastle United and West Ham United to secure his services. The defender is thinking about a potential move away from Serie A, despite being settled and happy at AC Milan.
The 23-year-old has been a regular for the Rossoneri in what has been a chaotic season. He has continued to get regular minutes under new manager Sergio Conceicao. The three-cap Germany international has made 29 appearances across all competitions, registering a goal and an assist apiece thus far.
Now, according to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen have also joined Tottenham in the race to sign Malick Thiaw. The central defender is a ‘main candidate’ to leave Milan in the summer, and they want a fee of €25-30million to sell him.

Thiaw has shown great quality, potential and leadership skills in Serie A in the last couple of years, suggesting he could be ready to test himself in the hustle and bustle of Premier League football. The Dusseldorf-born star’s composure on the ball, aerial ability and reading of the game make him a strong fit for Postecoglou’s style of play.

He is a proper modern-day centre-back with the ability to play out from the back. The German can also operate as a right-back when required, which adds more value to his name. At just 23 years of age and valued between €25-30million, Spurs have to be all over Thiaw’s signing.
However, Tottenham won’t have a clear path; interest from multiple European clubs means they’ll need to move quickly and decisively to secure the Milan star’s signature.
