Tottenham put up emphatic ‘not for sale’ tag on Manchester City target; summer exit unlikely

Manchester City are showing an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie

Tottenham Hotspur are in dire need of positive results to end the 2024/25 season on a high.

The North London outfit have just not got the momentum to kick off from the start, and that has affected the league position in more ways than one. With the club hovering in the bottom half of the Premier League table and eliminated from the domestic cup competitions, there is an expectation that a surgery will be made to the squad during the summer transfer window.

Should Spurs fail to qualify for Europe next season, Daniel Levy is poised to receive several requests from international players to leave the club. Cristian Romero has already held private talks with Diego Simeone over a potential summer move to Atletico Madrid. And another player who has been linked with an exit from White Hart Lane is Destiny Udogie.

Tottenham’s stance on selling Destiny Udogie emerges amid Manchester City’s interest

Destiny Udogie enjoyed an impressive debut season in North London following his move from Udinese in 2023. With his consistent, rampaging displays, he had cemented his spot at left-back under Ange Postecoglou. However, the Italian has regressed like several of his teammates this season, with injury problems also hampering his progress.

Yet, the Verona-born talent appears to be a man in demand. It has been widely reported in the last couple of weeks that Manchester City are keen on signing Udogie. Pep Guardiola wants the left-back to bolster Man City’s defensive ranks next season, with new sporting director Hugo Viana understood to be a long-time admirer of the 22-year-old.

However, as per reliable Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Spurs have no plans to part ways with Udogie. They ‘definitely’ want to have him at the club next season, with the Italy international viewed as a ‘key player’ in the squad. And because of that, the North Londoners are refusing to put a price tag on him.

Instead, Plettenberg adds on his X account that the Lilywhites are likely to sign a new left-back this summer as they look to add competition for Udogie.

There is no way Daniel Levy would sell Udogie this summer. At 22, he is a player with huge potential and has a long contract at the club until 2030. So, if Man City desperately wants to have him in their squad, they will need to break the bank to persuade Levy into selling one of Tottenham’s long-term valuable assets.

With Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon both out of contract at the end of June, the Hotspur Way chiefs definitely must sign a new left-back to cover and compete with Udogie next season.
