Ange Postecoglou might end Tottenham’s wait for a major trophy
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou had the best result of his Spurs tenure on Thursday night. The Australian led the Lilywhites to the Europa League semi-finals against all odds. Spurs defeated Eintracht Frankfurt away from home to progress through to the next round, thanks to a goal from Dominic Solanke. Ange’s men also managed to keep a rare clean sheet.
After an embarrassing defeat to Wolves in the Premier League last weekend, no Spurs fan would have thought that the team would go to Germany and beat Frankfurt. Considering how tough it is to play at the Waldstadion, the Lilywhites showed bravery and the hunger to win at all costs. The German club also failed to score at home for the first time in over a year.

The game was played to absolute perfection by the Tottenham players. Ange Postecoglou will surely be pleased to see that the players still believe in his ideas and showed the urgency to fight for him. The North London club now face Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals of the competition. They also move a step closer to ending the long-awaited trophy drought at the club.
Paul Robinson believes Tottenham might still sack Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham reached their first European semi-final in six years and moved a step closer to winning silverware on Thursday. With Ange Postecoglou’s job on the line and the result of the Frankfurt game seemingly deciding his fate, the Lilywhites rose to the occasion and delivered a perfect result. The ex-Celtic boss lives to fight for another day at the helm and keeps the dream alive of winning a trophy in his second season.
But Paul Robinson does not believe that winning the Europa League trophy will be enough for the Australian to save his job at N17. Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, Robinson said,
“I still don’t think winning the Europa League saves Ange because of the turbulent season they’ve had, and the way that supporters have become so disconnected with him and the club now.”

The former Spurs player believes that Ange Postecoglou will get sacked even if Tottenham win the Europa League. Robinson suggests that the Premier League campaign has certainly not helped the manager and the fans have become disconnected with the club following poor results week in week out. The Englishman also insisted that the mediocre performance and the poor position in the league has left the fans frustrated.
Big Ange has surely taken the right step in terms of saving his career at N17. The 59-year-old’s tenure at Spurs is now judged on how his team performs in Europe this season, so every game is of paramount importance. The Premier League campaign is already a write-off and it can be said that the club will give more importance to how the Europa League campaign goes. If Ange Postecoglou fails to win the competition, he might get sacked by Daniel Levy.

The club have already started looking for replacements if they end up sacking the Aussie. Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Spurs’ former manager Jose Mourinho are all in the shortlist as a potential replacement for next season. So, Big Ange has to do the impossible and end the club’s 17-year-long wait for winning silverware to be at N17 next season.
