Arsenal are keen to beat Tottenham and Barcelona to Athletic Club star Nico Williams
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new wide forward at Hotspur Way given how Ange Postecoglou looks to add more flair and pace to his offensive setup, and if you ask the Lilywhites faithful about their dream signing for the role, many would turn to Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. The Spain international was the centre of all the headlines in the last summer transfer window, given links with a probable move to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain; however, none of the aforementioned sides had what it took to pry away his signatures from his boyhood club.
Now going into the summer, all the clubs would be lurking again, again to try and snap his signature, given how he has been playing some good football in La Liga once again this season with eleven goals complemented by seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Athletic Club. But Williams is not just a goal scorer; he is a versatile player who is capable of playing across the front three while bringing flair, creativity and dynamism to any attacking unit, and Tottenham have struggled to display all three of those from flanks on a consistent basis in this campaign.
The 22-year-old has a €58 million release clause in his current deal, and that could end up being a bargain signing given his potential.
Arsenal ready to trigger Nico Williams’ release clause

But while Spurs go along with the possibilities and options, their North London neighbours Arsenal have fortified their bid to sign the highly regarded winger when the summer window comes around, given that the Gunners have expressed their willingness to meet the aforementioned clause to secure his signature, per Fichajes.
The Euro 2024 winner has shown the capacity to influence games on his own, and as we saw recently how Declan Rice did so against Real Madrid, Mikel Arteta would want more of such players in his squad at London Colney. Moreover, the Reds from North London have had problems with squad depth this season, given how Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have been run into the ground, with both facing significant injuries this year, and having someone with the capacity of Williams, who can fill in at both positions, will help Arsenal with their rotational options while maintaining their quality.
As we head close to the summer window, all eyes will be on Arsenal and their pursuit of Nico Williams, but Daniel Levy & Co. will also have to be ready to poach the 22-year-old’s signature if the Gunners can’t agree on personal terms with the player.
