Tottenham face a big battle to land Como star Nico Paz in the summer following the entry of Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur focused mainly on addressing the defensive loopholes and strengthening the attacking unit during the January transfer window, adding the likes of Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel to the squad.
Ange Postecoglou’s position at the club remains uncertain, but that has not stopped the Hotspur Way chiefs from planning for the summer transfer window after a disastrous season. Having bolstered the defence and attack just a few months ago, Spurs are seemingly looking to add muscle and creativity to their midfield unit.
This is because of the Lilywhites’ midfielders failing to control the tempo of games almost every time. They also require competition and depth, owing to James Maddison blowing hot and cold throughout his second season at N17.

Tottenham have reportedly set their sights on signing 1897 Como playmaker Nico Paz. They are one of the clubs monitoring the youngster’s performances in Serie A.
Nico Paz left Real Madrid to surprisingly join Como last summer and has been a fine performer. He has been among the standout performers for the Italian side, acting as their chief source of creativity. The Spain-born talent has registered six goals and as many assists in 30 league appearances, catching the eye of several clubs across Europe.
Real Madrid have a buyback option in the creative midfielder’s contract. From this year, they will be able to buy Paz back by paying an initial fee of €9 million—an amount that will increase with every season. However, Ange Postecoglou’s club have learned that they will face one big challenger in their attempts to sign the Argentina international.
According to a report from Fichajes, Chelsea are better placed to secure Paz’s signature and they could offer €30 million to get the deal done.

The Pensioners are pushing for Champions League qualification, and it will be interesting to see if they can achieve their objective this season. The West London outfit will be an attractive destination for the Como star if they manage to qualify for the elite European competition next term.
Chelsea leading the race for the services of Paz is a big blow for Tottenham. Unlike Spurs, the Blues have been in and around the European spots under Enzo Maresca and are looking to strengthen the team even more in the summer. Thus, the acquisition of the ex-Real Madrid prodigy won’t be straightforward for Tottenham.

That being said, the least the Lilywhites could do is win the Europa League in May and clinch Champions League qualification in the process. This would give us some hope to beat our London rivals to the signing of the blossoming talent from Tenerife.
