Jamie O’Hara believes Postecoglou’s constant reasoning has shielded him from Tottenham sack
This Tottenham side is arguably the worst the club has fielded in decades. Currently languishing in 16th place in the Premier League and already eliminated from all domestic competitions, the Lilywhites have endured a season to forget. From the very start, Spurs have struggled to find form, and while fans hoped for tangible progress in Ange Postecoglou’s second year at the helm, that evolution has failed to materialise.
Yet, despite the dismal campaign, chairman Daniel Levy has refrained from sacking Postecoglou, and Jamie O’Hara believes he knows exactly why.

Postecoglou has certainly left the door open should he decide to walk away from Tottenham, but what’s more surprising is how that door remains firmly shut from Daniel Levy’s side. Known as one of the most ruthless chairmen in football, Levy has shown far more leniency with Postecoglou than with previous managers who, in many cases, had done far less wrong. With 18 Premier League defeats already recorded and five matches still to play, Postecoglou is flirting with setting unwanted club records, yet his position appears secure, at least until the end of the season.
This patience is all the more intriguing when compared to Levy’s previous decisions. Take José Mourinho, for instance, dismissed just days before leading Spurs into the 2021 Carabao Cup final, despite having taken them to a major final.
That move left fans stunned at the time, and even more so now, considering Postecoglou’s much larger margin for error. Despite mounting frustration from the fanbase and increasing calls for change, Big Ange seems to have been granted more wiggle room than any of his recent predecessors, raising questions about what Levy sees in him that others lacked.
O’Hara believes the injury crisis is what saved Big Ange
Jamie O’Hara believes that the only reason Ange Postecoglou has managed to hold onto his job at Tottenham is because he consistently leaned on the club’s injury crisis as a shield. Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Spurs midfielder claimed that Postecoglou used injuries as a recurring excuse throughout the season, which ultimately bought him more time than he might have otherwise received. Now, with a nearly fully fit squad available and performances still falling short, O’Hara argues that the excuse no longer holds water, yet Postecoglou remains in charge despite the ongoing string of poor results.
The Former player turned pundit speaking on TalkSport, expressed himself
“That (injuries) was an excuse, mate. He was getting away with that excuse for a long time.”
“That kept him in the job. All them players being injured actually kept him in the job. That was the excuse: ‘I’ve got too many injuries’.
“He’s got a full squad to choose from now, and he’s still terrible.”

Tottenham are teetering on the brink of an unwanted place in club history. Just two more defeats would see them record their highest-ever number of losses in a single Premier League season. They also require at least eight more points to avoid setting a new all-time low for total points in the league era. Having already registered their most home defeats in a 38-game campaign, two more would even surpass the tally from the old 44-game format.
That’s how dire the situation has become at N17. And perhaps Jamie O’Hara has a point, without the early-season injury crisis to fall back on, it’s difficult to imagine Daniel Levy wouldn’t have already pulled the trigger on Ange Postecoglou.
