Fulham manager Marco Silva is one of the leading contenders to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur
Ange Postecoglou is believed to be heading towards the sack at Tottenham Hotspur regardless of whether they win the Europa League in May, with the club now beginning to explore potential successors.
The Lilywhites have reportedly placed Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola at the top of their shortlist if they do end up firing Ange Postecoglou before the 2025/26 season commences. Bournemouth are holding talks with Iraola in a bid to keep him at the Vitality Stadium for at least another 12 months, which is a blow for Daniel Levy’s club.
With the North London club’s chances of appointing Iraola appear slim, Fulham manager Marco Silva could emerge as a realistic option, with his contract at Craven Cottage set to enter its final 12 months.

Marco Silva has done a good job at Fulham and deserves huge plaudits for that. The 47-year-old has got the Cottagers challenging for European qualification, just a couple of years from guiding them to top-flight promotion. He is on course to finish above Spurs at the end of his fourth season in West London, with Fulham sitting ninth in the table and playing some eye-catching football despite a much smaller budget than Tottenham.
The Portuguese tactician is approaching his 180th game in charge of the Cottagers away at relegated Southampton on Saturday. If Spurs are to appoint Silva as Postecoglou’s replacement, they will have to pay upwards of £8million to buy him out from his Fulham contract.
For a manager, £8million seems like a lot of money, but former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson feels it may be something the Lilywhites must do if they are to progress on the pitch next season.
“£8 million. It’s a drop in the ocean now, isn’t it, these days? I mean, it’s a big buyout for a manager,” Paul Robinson exclusively told Tottenham News.
“But then you look at the finances involved with football. If Tottenham are serious, they’ve got to get it right this time. How many times have we sat here and had this conversation over the years? Tottenham have got to get it right.
“The managerial appointment is crucial. The recruitment is crucial. We said that before they appointed Nuno Espirito Santo. We said that before they appointed Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou. Every single time Tottenham seem to be at this crossroads, where the managerial appointment is crucial, the recruitment is going to be crucial. At some point, they have to get it right.
“And if you’re going to have to pay to get it right, they’re going to have to pay to get it right.”

Indeed, Levy’s next managerial appointment has to be right on the money, and once he gets that, the recruitment that follows should be quality. Silva is an experienced Premier League manager, having also led clubs like Hull City, Watford and Everton before taking up the Fulham gig. So, he knows the challenges and demands to not only sustain in the top flight but also build competitive teams, as witnessed in his current tenure with Fulham.
Recently, the Portuguese tactician claimed that his head is in Fulham amid speculation surrounding his future. But if Levy feels Silva is the right fit at White Hart Lane and will take the club forward instead of Big Ange, then he must not hesitate to show ambition and pay his £8million release clause.
