Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min ruled out of the Liverpool game on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur are days away from their biggest game of the season. They cross swords with Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 1, before travelling to Norway a week later for the return leg.

However, ahead of that comes a Premier League meeting with champions-elect Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Ange Postecoglou’s side will travel to the red half of Merseyside with the hope of stopping the Reds from winning the Premier League. As the Australian tactician will have more of a focus on the Bodo/Glimt clashes in Europe, he could make multiple changes to his squad against Liverpool.

Ahead of the trip to Liverpool, Ange Postecoglou faced the media on Saturday afternoon. He delivered an injury update on his skipper Son Heung-min, who hasn’t played for Spurs since their 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on April 10.

Son Heung-min has missed the last three games for Tottenham with a foot problem

The South Korean international has missed the last three games with a foot problem, and Postecoglou said he is the only injury concern ahead of Sunday’s game against Arne Slot’s side.

“Sonny is improving which is a positive for us, not for Sunday. Everyone else from the last game is fine. [Will Son be ready for Thursday?] We’ll see. First time on the grass today and he said it felt better,” Postecoglou told Football London.

It is a positive update on the injury update on Son Heung-min. The Spurs star has been nowhere near his best this season, netting just 11 goals this season—a lowly tally when compared to his previous returns at the club.

Once again, persistent injury issues have ravaged the 32-year-old’s season, especially given Ange hasn’t seen the best of his skipper for large parts. However, that does not take away from the fact that he is a crucial player to have on the pitch, as on his day, Son can create moments of magic and win games on his own.

But, even the ex-Bayer Leverkusen man would agree that his form has been underwhelming for the best part of the 2024/25 campaign. With a crucial Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt to come, the fans will hope to see their skipper back fit and pumped up to make a significant contribution.
