Postecoglou confirms Tottenham star is 'ready to start' vs Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min ruled out of the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt

Tottenham Hotspur will face Bodo/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals, with Ange Postecoglou desperate for a positive result.

Spurs have a golden opportunity to make a European final for the first time since 2019, and our fans would already be dreaming of seeing the club lift the first trophy since 2008. This is the biggest of the Australian tactician’s time in North London, although his team had the worst preparations for it.

The Lilywhites head into the first leg against Bodo/Glimt on the back of a 5-1 demolition at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield, where Ange Postecoglou decided to rest several key players. One player who was not involved against Liverpool on Sunday was Son Heung-min.

Son Heung-min will not face Bodo/Glimt at home on Thursday

Son Heung-min has been struggling with a foot injury of late, missing five games in the process. He was already ruled out of the Liverpool game, but Ange was hopeful of having his skipper back in time for the Bodo/Glimt clash at home.

The South Korean star hasn’t featured for Tottenham since their 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on April 10, and Ange’s side will have to make do without him again in midweek.

Speaking in his pre-match presser on Wednesday, Postecoglou gave an update on the fitness of Son Heung-min when asked by the journalists. He stated that the forward is not available to face the Norwegian side and has been training separately from the main group.

“No, he won’t feature tomorrow night. He is out training but is still separate from the group. He is improving and hopefully we can get him back sooner rather than later,” the Spurs boss told Football London.

Son was never going to be fully fit and ready to start the first leg against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday. The least the fans expected was to see him on the bench and feature for some minutes. However, the South Asian ace has not overcome his foot problem and is still training individually, which shows he is still some way short of being ready to play again.

This is a blow for the North Londoners, as Ange would have liked to have Son available at some capacity in this massive first leg at home. His update on Wednesday also wasn’t assuring whether the 32-year-old will be available for next week’s trip to Norway.

In Son’s absence, senior players such as James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison must step up and help the team get a strong first-leg lead to take to Aspmyra Stadion on May 8.
