Ange Postecoglou express ‘concern’ about injured Tottenham star following Europa League win

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has given a concerning injury update on midfielder James Maddison
Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Bodo/Glimt to North London on Thursday evening in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final tie.
Spurs produced a dominant display and beat Bodo/Glimt 3-1 to take a step towards the Europa League final, with Brennan Johnson, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke all getting on the scoresheet. However, the North Londoners did suffer some fitness scares against the Norwegian team, with Dominic Solanke forced off with a knock.
James Maddison, too, was hurt and lay on the pitch before being replaced by Dejan Kulusevski in the 65th minute. He appeared to have some discomfort with his knee and couldn’t continue any further.

Ange Postecoglou has now provided an injury update on Maddison. His revelation on the creative midfielder’s injury is a bit concerning, with the player having been sent for scans after suffering some discomfort in his knee.
“Madders is a bit more of a concern as it’s a knee, we’ve sent him for a scan,” Postecoglou told Football London after the game.
Prior to his injury, Maddison was running the show for Spurs from an advanced role. The Bodo/Glimt players found it difficult to contain the England international’s creativity and movement. He doubled the lead for Tottenham in the 34th minute, masterfully controlling an aerial through ball from Pedro Porro before finding the back of the net from a tight angle. He was rightly adjudged the Player of the Match on Thursday night.
Maddison has been in and out of Ange’s XI, but he’s often been influential on the pitch. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a productive second season in North London, bagging 12 goals and 11 assists in 45 games. Yet, the Tottenham vice-captain has faced criticism from certain pundits, sections of the media and fans.

The playmaker’s potential serious knee injury is a big setback for Ange because he has been a key player for the Lilywhites and was showing signs of getting back his form after a slow start to the season. The Coventry-born talent has led the way in the Europa League campaign, delivering consistent displays.

The White Hart Lane faithful will be desperately hoping that Maddison can recover in time for the final at the San Mames in Bilbao on May 21 if Spurs reach there, particularly given that Ange has confirmed that Lucas Bergvall is set to miss the rest of the season following an ankle ligament damage.
