Tottenham left surprised by latest claims surrounding breakout midfield star

Tottenham caught off guard by Bergvall’s unexpected injury setback
Tottenham’s Europa League campaign is their best opportunity for silverware this season, and they took a huge step towards the final with a vital 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in the semi-final first leg – probably the most significant win of the campaign. But it wasn’t without its problems, as Lucas Bergvall was injured during the match, and it looks as though he will miss the remainder of the season.
Fans have been understandably upset and raised the potential impact of Bergvall’s absence as a concern, but journalist Dan Kilpatrick admitted on The Tottenham Way Podcast that the response has surprised those within the club.

The strong reaction around Lucas Bergvall being ruled out for the rest of the season has surprised some at Tottenham, especially because there are only a few matches remaining. Dan Kilpatrick of the Standard revealed on The Tottenham Way Podcast that, despite the concern from fans, the injury is not viewed by the club as a considerable absence.
The Spurs staff have pretty much brushed off the impact of Bergvall missing time, even though the young age player has really been one of the club’s top performers this season, in his maturity, way beyond his years.
Spurs downplay concerns as Bergvall injury reaction catches them off guard
Speaking on The Tottenham Way podcast, The Standard correspondent explained that Spurs internally weren’t too alarmed by the news of Lucas Bergvall being ruled out for the season, given that only three or four weeks remain. He likened the reaction to when a player is ruled out in November and it’s phrased as “out for the rest of the year,” which can sound more dramatic than it is.
However, he admitted the situation is still significant. Bergvall has arguably been Tottenham’s standout performer this season, and if an award were handed out tomorrow, he’d likely be the frontrunner. The reporter added that Ange Postecoglou confirmed the youngster had picked up an ankle injury.

While Bergvall’s injury may not end up being too serious, the timing is as unfortunate as could be. Losing perhaps one of the best players in the squad over the next couple of games is a huge blow for Tottenham. Perhaps it seems to the club that supporters are shocked by such a strong reaction, yet supporters are pondering over what happens to Bergvall and how key he would have been near the end of these weeks.
