“Wish him well”- Injured Tottenham star feared to be out of action for months

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison has suffered a serious knee injury and could be sidelined for months
Tottenham Hotspur took a step closer toward qualifying for the UEFA Europa League final by beating Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in the first leg of the semi-final at home last week.
It was a comprehensive performance and victory at home, but Spurs suffered a big blow in that game. Influential midfielder James Maddison suffered a knee injury in the second half, after netting before the break. He expertly controlled a long ball from Pedro Porro, wrong-footed the Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper with a clever cut inside, and his scuffed shot managed to find the back of the net.
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou sounded positive in the immediate aftermath of the first leg. However, it became clear on Friday morning the injury was more serious than first feared and subsequent scans have confirmed that.

James Maddison is now expected to miss the rest of the season, with the creative midfielder now being assessed for knee ligament damage. The England international, who was absent from the gritty 1-1 draw at West Ham on Sunday, will almost certainly not be available for either the semi-final second leg or the potential final at San Mames in Bilbao later this month.
However, things could yet get worse for the 28-year-old. Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has suggested Maddison could be sidelined for up to four months, which would see the Coventry-born talent miss the start of the 2025/26 season.
“This is a big blow for Maddison and Tottenham,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Until we know exactly what the issue is, we don’t know exactly how long it will take him to recover. I finished my career with a bad knee. However, the medical treatment is a lot better these days.
“If it is a bad knee injury, Maddison could be out for three or four months. Therefore, I’d imagine any holiday plans will be shelved, and he could be spending the summer rehabilitating. However, until we know the extent of the injury, I can only wish him well.”

Maddison has played a crucial role in Spurs’ impressive Europa League run. In the second leg of the quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt, the playmaker won a vital penalty after bravely putting his body on the line, which Dominic Solanke coolly converted from the spot to send Ange Postecoglou’s side through to the final four of the competition.
So, the vice-captain’s injury is a massive setback for Tottenham. This is the second big blow Ange’s side have suffered in a week. Lucas Bergvall suffered an ankle injury in training last week and is expected to be sidelined for two months, meaning he will miss the second leg against Bodo/Glimt or the potential final at San Mames too.

The Lilywhites are also sweating on the fitness of Son Heung-min and Dominic Solanke, although Ange gave a positive indication after the West Ham game that Solanke should be fit in time to feature in the second leg against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.
