Jermaine Jenas rips into Tottenham Hotspur star Yves Bissouma
Tottenham Hotspur’s miserable Premier League campaign dragged on over the weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United, yet another setback in a season to forget.
With the club firmly looking ahead, a major squad overhaul is expected this summer as Spurs aim to rebuild and restore competitiveness on the pitch. Several underperforming players are likely to be shown the door as part of the reset.
Among those with uncertain futures is midfielder Yves Bissouma. The combative enforcer is set to enter the final year of his contract in July, and with no renewal talks underway, Tottenham are reportedly ready to cash in on him. Bissouma appears increasingly likely to be one of the many departures as the club reshapes its squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has been discussing the performances of Yves Bissouma this season. The English pundit reckons the 28-year-old has lost all of his confidence, pointing out that he only plays backwards passes at the moment.
“Bissouma, he has the ability to do it, but for some reason, he’s lost all of his confidence on the ball and he only plays backwards,” Jenas said on TalkSPORT.
“I think the start of his career at Tottenham was good, then he had a couple of sending offs, and he never came back from those sending offs, really silly ones. Then he’s had off the pitch incidents that haven’t gone down well at the club.”

Indeed, Bissouma has had an underwhelming campaign, like most of his Tottenham teammates. The Malian arrived at the North London club as a box-to-box midfield general from Brighton and Hove Albion amid a lot of fanfare, but unfortunately, things just haven’t worked out for him in a Spurs shirt.
The Ivory Coast-born midfielder has failed to cement his place in Ange Postecoglou’s first XI this season, thanks to his erratic and inconsistent displays. Lucas Bergvall’s steep rise in stature has left the Tottenham boss with no choice but to consistently rely on his young shoulders in midfield, which in turn has demoted Bissouma to a mere squad player.

The African star has been linked with a move to Aston Villa of late, and if the N17 chiefs receive a tempting offer for him, they must not hesitate to sell Bissouma this summer.
