“10 out of 10′ – Ange Postecoglou praised for his deft handling of Tottenham star struggling to meet expectations

Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson has become an important part of Ange Postecoglou’s setup
Tottenham Hotspur star Brennan Johnson is enjoying a successful individual campaign this season. The Wales international has been prolific in front of goal for the Lilywhites and has stepped up for the club in crucial times. The 23-year-old did not have the best start to the season and was brutally trolled and abused for his performances for the North London club.
But it is fair to say that Johnson has responded to all the critics in the best way possible. The ex-Nottingham Forest forward is one of the first names on the team-sheet under Ange Postecoglou. The Welshman’s latest goal contribution came in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final clash against Bodo/Glimt. The Spurs No.22 gave Ange’s men the lead in the opening minute of the game after scoring a close-range header.

This season has not gone well for Spurs at all. However, Johnson has been one of the few positives for the Lilywhites and has continued his fine goalscoring form for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Dominic Solanke was also full of praise for Brennan Johnson earlier last month and acknowledged the Welshman’s fine form this season.
Tottenham star Brennan Johnson receives support amid backlash
Tottenham fans are still not satisfied with Brennan Johnson’s contributions this season and have criticised the Wales international for being inconsistent in front of goal. It is important to note that Johnson is the club’s top scorer this season, and has been one of the few players for Ange Postecoglou that has stepped up in tough times.
Ex-Wales manager Rob Page also believes that the Spurs forward is unfairly criticised by the fans. Talking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Rob Page said (as transcribed by TBR Football),
“I work with Brennan Johnson, know him really well. He went to Tottenham from Forest, so expectations were on him as well because he was expected to go into the Tottenham side and perform straight away.”
The former Wales manager added,
“With young players you’re going to get inconsistency. It’s not going to be 10 out of 10 every week. And it’s managing that and good managers will, they’ll take him in and out – and I know Ange did that.”
Rob Page suggested that the expectations were high for Johnson to perform straight away after arriving to N17 from Nottingham Forest. The ex-Wales boss insisted that young players were bound to be inconsistent and fans should understand that. Page also acknowledged Ange Postecoglou’s way of handling Brennan Johnson’s development when the forward was getting criticised constantly. It is fair to say that the Spurs boss has done well in this regard.
As per Sofascore, Brennan Johnson has scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 47 games this season. He has also created seven big chances for his teammates and completed 27 key passes. It is fair to say that Spurs rely heavily on the Welshman and would need him fit and firing for the rest of the season.
