Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin has been working hard on his rehab for an ACL injury

Tottenham Hotspur have faced a difficult campaign marred by injuries that have totally decimated their season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have failed to recover from a slow start to their Premier League season. They have lost a record-equalling 19 league games, leaving them in 16th place with three games left to play.

The injuries have started piling up of late after Ange Postecoglou had managed to get some of his key stars back from February. Son Heung-min has been out of action of late with a foot problem, while vice-captain James Maddison has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Teenage prodigy Lucas Bergvall, too, is expected to miss the rest of the games, including the second leg against Bodo/Glimt and a potential Europa League final in Bilbao later this month.

Meanwhile, Radu Dragusin remains a long-term casualty for Tottenham. The central defender ruptured his ACL in Spurs’ 3-0 Europa League win over Swedish side IF Elfsborg in February, and has since not featured. Some ACL injuries can keep players out of action for up to a year.

It has been a frustrating season for Radu Dragusin, who had just begun to earn regular minutes under Ange Postecoglou following injuries to first-choice centre-back duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Last month, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar gave an update on the Romanian, stating that the defender is still in the early stages of his recovery.

Ahead of Spurs’ second leg against Bodo/Glimt, Dragusin gave the fans an encouraging update on his long-term fitness. He posted a video to his Instagram story, which showed the defender running on a pitch for the first time since surgery. He captioned it: “Today was a good day. Running again, that feeling hits different. 12 weeks post-op.”

Postecoglou came out with the reasons that paved the way for the addition of Dragusin to the squad despite not being completely fit.
Radu Dragusin suffered an ACL rupture in February, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.

The Bucharest-born star had been a major beneficiary of the Lilywhites’ injury crisis before falling victim to a serious knee issue, starting 25 of his 28 games across all competitions. He was getting back his confidence and gaining momentum before the unfortunate injury happened.

It is a great to see Dragusin back on the pitch and running again, which shows the progress he has been making since going under the knife a couple of months ago. There is a long way to go before he comes, with a huge possibility of missing the pre-season tour too. The former Genoa man’s return from a serious knee injury will be a long-term process, demanding great care, positivity and support.

Hopefully, Dragusin comes back fitter and stronger than ever and we get to see him in action later this year possibly under a new boss.
