Tottenham ready to make first approach for Championship bound star

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap

Tottenham Hotspur need to bring in reinforcements in the summer. The Lilywhites are enduring a tough campaign and sit 16th in the Premier League table. Ange Postecoglou’s men are also on their way to record the club’s lowest ever points tally in a single season. They have suffered 19 league defeats and there is a realistic chance that the North London club finishes the season just a place above the relegation zone.

The Spurs forwards have just not got going this season. Last summer’s statement signing Dominic Solanke has struggled to perform consistently and endured a slow start to life at N17. However, the England international has found his goalscoring touch again in recent games and managed to score some vital goals for the Lilywhites.

Another forward that has struggled to stay fit is Richarlison. The Brazil international has fallen down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou and endured long-term injuries this season. It has just not worked out for the 27-year-old at Spurs. Mathys Tel has also not made a meaningful impact for the Lilywhites since arriving to the club in January. The Frenchman faces an uncertain future once his loan ends in the summer.

Tottenham want to sign Ipswich Town star Liam Delap

Tottenham are looking to bolster their attacking line for next season. The Lilywhites need to bring in a prolific goal-scorer to compete with Dominic Solanke. With Richarlison heading for the exit doors once the season ends, Spurs will look to bring in a replacement quickly and fill the attacking void the Brazilian will leave behind.

Spurs are interested in signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. The England U-21 international is available for just £30million, thanks to the release clause that got activated in his contract after the Tractor Boys’ relegation from the Premier League was confirmed. Delap is also open for a move as he intends to stay in the top-flight and play for a big club.

However, the Englishman is expected to ask for a salary worth £150,000-per-week as he aims to leverage the market value. Tottenham also face competition to sign the 22-year-old. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Everton are also interested in landing the prolific striker for next season. However, Spurs feel they have the edge over their competitors and have made the first approach to sign the Ipswich star.

Will Liam Delap fit in at Tottenham?

Liam Delap has put in a brilliant shift for Ipswich Town this season. The England U-21 international has been prolific in front of goal and has been a vital part of Kieran McKenna’s side. Although the Tractor Boys are relegated from the Premier League, Delap has certainly shown he still belongs in the top-flight and can play an important part for any big club.

As per Sofascore, Delap has played 37 games in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists. The prolific striker has also managed to create three big chances for his teammates. He has attempted 66 shots in the Premier League, and has managed to hit the target 31 times. This just shows that the Englishman is likely to convert most of his chances.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Liam Delap will be a perfect fit for Tottenham. The 22-year-old will provide a different dynamic to the Spurs attack under Ange Postecoglou. The Ipswich striker is direct, can hold-up the ball, and is a threat in the air. Delap also has explosive pace and tends to take on the defenders. He can play as a target man or as a poacher in the box. The striker would provide good competition to Dominic Solanke as well if Spurs end up signing him.
