Tottenham Hotspur might need to win the Europa League to retain their to players

Tottenham Hotspur have the chance of winning the Europa League and saving their season. The Lilywhites have endured an embarrassing domestic campaign, and it is certain that the only way to save face is to win silverware. Ange Postecoglou’s men sit 16th in the Premier League table during the business end of the campaign. There is a realistic chance that they finish just a place above the relegation zone if results do not improve.

Spurs need to win the Europa League this season to close the gap on their rivals. Winning the competition would also mean that the Lilywhites would qualify for Champions League football next season. That would be a significant step in helping Tottenham reach their short-term targets.

The North London club is facing a massive squad overhaul in the summer. Many key players are expected to depart as they look to play in elite competitions. As Spurs are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, qualifying for the Champions League would help the club retain some of the players.

Tottenham must win the UEL to retain players

A lot is on the line for Tottenham this season. The Lilywhites must win the Europa League to keep the house intact and prevent it from getting ripped apart. Not winning the Europa League would bring in a lot of repercussions for Spurs, and that would mean key players might head for the exit doors for pastures new.

Former Spurs player Paul Robinson believes that Tottenham will lose a lot of players if they do not win the Europa League. The ex-player said on BBC Radio Live (as transcribed by TBR Football),

“It’s (more important) for Tottenham to win for the restructure of the whole club. Because if Tottenham don’t win this competition, they lose the manager. You then lose players at the club, good quality players will want to leave. How do you attract players to a team that’s potentially going to finish 16th or 17th in the Premier League?”

Paul Robinson suggests that winning the Europa League is more important for Tottenham. The ex-Spurs player points out that the club faces the possibility of losing the manager and the players if they do not win the final. It would also mean that the Lilywhites would miss out on Champions League football, and not many players would look to join a club that finishes 16th in the Premier League.
