Tottenham lagging behind in the race for ‘solid’ Bundesliga defender

Tottenham face competition to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bolster their defence in the summer. The Lilywhites have endured a tough campaign and fans are hoping that the club brings in reinforcements once the season. The North London club have endured an injury crisis this season and it has seriously disrupted the team’s progress in domestic competitions.
Spurs have let in 57 goals in the Premier League this season. They have also managed to keep just six clean sheets in the league. Individual mistakes at the back have costed them some crucial wins. Also, injuries to key players has not helped the cause either. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have missed most parts of the season through long-term injuries. Backup defender Radu Dragusin has also ruptured his ACL and is set to be on the sidelines for several months.

The lack of squad depth might just cost Ange Postecoglou his job. The Australian has been forced to play young players out of position to fill the defensive void left behind by the key players. The Lilywhites were forced to be Guglielmo Vicario as well during the crucial part of the season. The Italian was sidelined with a foot fracture and was out for almost two months.
Tottenham suffer blow in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah
Tottenham are prepared for a massive overhaul in the summer. Key defender Cristian Romero is tipped to leave N17 once the season ends. The Argentina international is linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and he has made it clear that intends to play in Spain in the future. With Romero leaving, Daniel Levy will need to bring in a replacement quickly for next season.
It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen. The Germany international has been one of the key players for Xabi Alonso, but Tah is planning to head for pastures new as he wants to challenge himself in a new environment.

Jonathan Tah’s contract is up in the summer, and Spurs feel that it is the perfect opportunity to sign the centre-back. However, the Lilywhites have now been hit with a massive blow in their pursuit of the Leverkusen star. As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), Bayern Munich have now emerged as favourites to land Jonathan Tah. The Bundesliga giants view the 29-year-old as the perfect replacement of the outgoing Eric Dier.
Daniel Levy will need to act quick if he wants to land the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back. The Lilywhites face the prospect of losing many key players in the summer, so Levy cannot afford to lose on the players that club have intended to buy. It is also important for Spurs to win the Europa League, as winning the competition would ensure Champions League football for next season.

Tottenham have also set their eyes on an alternate target to replace Cristian Romero. Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is linked with a move to N17 and it is believed that the England international will be open to head for pastures new after enjoying a successful campaign under Oliver Glasner. Spurs fans will hope that Daniel Levy manages to make the right decision and get in right players this summer.
