Tottenham to offload both Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies as part of squad rebuild

Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies are set to be moved on from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season

Tottenham Hotspur are facing a mass exodus of players this summer as they plot a potential overhaul of the first-team squad currently at the disposal of Ange Postecoglou.

The North Londoners’ misery in the Premier League season continued on Sunday as they were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace in the London derby. It marked their 20th defeat of the Premier League season, with Ange Postecoglou’s side dropping to a lowly 17th spot in the table.

The Europa League remains the only saving grace for the Australian. Had it not been for the Europa League run-in, Daniel Levy would have sacked the veteran tactician long back. They are just one step away from being crowned Europa League champions, and by doing so, Spurs would also make a direct entry into the Champions League next season.

Qualification to the Champions League is seen crucial to the club bosses’ summer plans, with several players targeted to bolster the squad. But first, they must trim the existing squad by offloading the deadwood and fringe players.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke has revealed both Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies could leave Tottenham at the end of the season as part of a squad revamp. The North Londoners are set to reshape their defensive unit in the summer, given the problems they have faced so far this campaign with several players likely to be shown the exit door.

Ben Davies faces an uncertain future at Tottenham as he is out of contract (Transfermarkt) in the summer. The Welshman remains an important part of Ange’s squad, and reports suggest the club are ready to exercise a one-year player option on the defender.

On the contrary, Sergio Reguilon has long been told to find a new club as he doesn’t feature in their plans moving forward. The Spaniard’s contract also expires in June, and despite trying to offload him permanently in the past two transfer windows, he will now leave N17 on a free transfer. The 27-year-old has proven to be another underwhelming buy in the Daniel Levy regime.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

As far as Davies is concerned, the Hotspur Way chiefs must avoid triggering a one-year option in his contract and allow him to leave on a free transfer. At 32, the versatile defender offers no future value and will decline even more sharply in the coming years. And by letting go both Reguilon and Davies, Spurs must sign a quality left-back who can cover and compete with Destiny Udogie from next season.
