Ange Postecoglou is likely to be sacked by Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season
Ange Postecoglou is fully focused on guiding Tottenham Hotspur to a win against Manchester United in the Europa League final at San Mames in Spain next week, regardless of whether that ends up saving his job.
Rumours have been circulating over several weeks and months that the Australian would be lucky to remain in charge of the North London club for the third season running. This season is on course to become the worst-ever in the club’s top-flight history, having already suffered 20 losses with two games left to play.
However, the Greek-Aussie tactician now has the chance of keeping his promise of winning a trophy in his second season at a club. The majority of the Tottenham fanbase believe that it might still not be enough for the 59-year-old to keep his place at the helm for next season, with chairman Daniel Levy already having started looking at managerial replacements.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has now delivered an update on Ange’s future at N17. When asked whether the Europa League triumph in Bilbao next week would change Daniel Levy’s viewpoint of the club’s underwhelming domestic season, he stated that Postecoglou is ‘likely’ to leave regardless of the outcome in the Europa League final against Man United.
“I think it’s unlikely. I think the direction of travel is for Spurs to make a change in the summer, irrespective of the outcome of this match. I do take the point on the emotion, and we saw what happened with Manchester United [under Erik ten Hag], although that may serve as a warning why clubs shouldn’t repeat what they did,” David Ornstein claimed via the Sky Sports Back Pages podcast.
“I just think it’s got so bad for Tottenham in the Premier League this season, and they feel that they’ve invested heavily into the squad. Yes, there are a lot of young players. Yes, there have been injuries. But the view of the club seems to be that he hasn’t got what he should’ve out of the team this season, and that’s putting it politely.
“And therefore, whatever happens in this Europa League campaign, I think that a new coach coming in over the summer is a very high possibility.”

Winning the Europa League looks unlikely to be enough for Postecoglou to save his job at Tottenham. The Lilywhites’ progress in the European competition does not change the fact that they have had a nightmare of a season domestically, losing 20 of 36 league games thus far. This is a terrible record for any manager, and had it not been for the Europa League run-in, Ange would have been sacked by now.

Spurs now seem to be laying the groundwork to replace the former Celtic manager. Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva are on the club’s radar. However, a new man seems to have emerged as a managerial target to succeed Ange ahead of next season.
Former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has reportedly held talks with the Tottenham management. Recently in an interview with The Athletic, the Spanish tactician admitted his desire to manage in the Premier League. For now, the club’s one-point agenda is winning the Europa League trophy.
