Tottenham have the chance of ending their long-standing trophy drought this season
Tottenham Hotspur have endured a disastrous domestic campaign under Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table and have registered 20 league losses already. Big Ange’s side has broken all sorts of unwanted records this season and it looks like the end of the road is near for the Australian.
However, not all is doom and gloom in North London. Spurs have managed to exceed all expectations in Europe after reaching the Europa League final. The Lilywhites beat Bodo/Glimt comfortably in the semi-finals of the competition and booked their flight tickets to Bilbao. They take on Manchester United in the crucial game, a team that Ange’s men have beaten thrice already in all competitions this season.

Like Spurs, even Man United have struggled to carve out positive results in the Premier League. The Red Devils sit 16th in the league table, just a place above the Lilywhites. It has been a season to forget for both clubs in domestic competitions. And it is clear to see that the Europa League is acting as the saving grace for both clubs to save their blushes.
Gary Neville believes Tottenham are a better team heading into the final
Tottenham have just not got going this season under Ange Postecoglou. Numerous injuries to key players and players being out of form have certainly not helped the ex-Celtic manager’s cause. After facing immense scrutiny for the performances in the Premier League, Ange Postecoglou has the chance of ending the season on a high and win the Europa League this season.
Now, Man United legend Gary Neville believes that Tottenham have the better players as compared to the Red Devils heading into the final. Speaking on The Overlap (as transcribed by TBR Football), Neville said,
“I’m genuinely, I said it last week, I’ve got a sickly feeling about this game next Wednesday, a sickly, sickly feeling. And the biggest reason I’ve got a sickly feeling is when I look at every single player in the Tottenham team, Maddison, I like Maddison, so I don’t want him not to be available.”
The Man United legend added,
“But when you look at Kulusevski, Son, Brennan Johnson, Solanke, if Maddison was there, Bissouma and Sarr, Romero and Van de Ven, Porro and Udogie. No, no. When you look at those players, like for like with United, only Bruno, in my opinion, would get into the first 11 of Spurs. I would select every single Tottenham player.”
Gary Neville suggests that Spurs have a better team than Manchester United and that gives him a ‘sickly’ feeling. The ex-United star also names out all the players in the Tottenham team and goes on to say that every player is better than the ones Man United have got, in terms of individual quality. Neville also suggests that Bruno Fernandes is the only United player that would get into the Tottenham lineup.
A lot is riding on this upcoming game. The result in the Europa League would decide Ange Postecoglou’s fate at N17. Winning the competition would mean that the club would also qualify for Champions League football next season and get a huge influx of cash prize. Daniel Levy will also have to make a call on the Australian’s future as soon as the North London club finish their season.

It was reported earlier this week that Levy would sack Ange Postecoglou after the Europa League final, regardless of the outcome. This means that the ex-Celtic boss does not have much time left at N17. But, the 59-year-old can still give Spurs fans a lasting memory if they win the Europa League. Winning the final would mean that the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy would end and the Lilywhites would bring back a European trophy to N17 after 41 years.
