Cristian Romero might not be at Tottenham next season

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero was one of the standout players in the Europa League final victory against Manchester United. The Argentina international did everything right and stepped up massively when the team needed him the most. The Lilywhites also managed to end the trophy drought by winning the competition on Wednesday night.

Winning the Europa League also ensured Champions League football for next season. But the talk of the town will be the determination shown by the Spurs players to get the result over the line against the Red Devils. The defenders had their best game for the North London club and every player played a crucial part in keeping a clean sheet.

Cristian Romero is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham.

One player that stood out from the rest was Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero. The 27-year-old showed why he is one of the best defenders in the world on Wednesday night. The Spurs No.17 was also elected the ‘Man of the Match’ for his exceptional performance at the back and leading the team to European glory.

Cristian Romero gives verdict on Tottenham future

There is no surprise that so many top clubs want to sign Cristian Romero in the summer. The Argentina international is linked with a move to Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid for next season and it is looking likely that the 27-year-old will head for the exit doors once the campaign ends. The Spurs defender had also admitted last month that he dreams of playing in Spain and would be open to move there in the future.

Now, Romero has again clarified his stance amid transfer links to other clubs. Speaking to TyC Sports (via X), the 27-year-old said,

“I can’t stop the things that are said outside the club, nor can I be constantly clarifying them. I always gave my all to this shirt, and here at the club, they show me that they love me very much. I love this club very much. I achieved a huge goal because Tottenham haven’t lifted a trophy in many years.”

Cristian Romero suggested that he cannot control the transfer stories linking him away from the club. The Spurs defender then added that he had given everything for Tottenham and the fans reciprocated in the right way as well. Romero ended by suggesting that he loves Spurs and he has achieved the goal of winning a major trophy with the North London club.

Although the Argentina international did not specifically clarify his future immediately, but he has surely given the fans something to think about for a few weeks. It remains to be seen what Daniel Levy will decide to do regarding Romero’s future at the North London club. The Lilywhites are already in the market for a new centre-back, so it is looking likely that the 27-year-old will depart N17 once the campaign ends.
