“Credit to him”- Ange Postecoglou lauds Tottenham star after successful individual season

Tottenham star Brennan Johnson has stepped up massively for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season

Tottenham Hotspur winger Brennan Johnson has quickly become one of the standout players in the squad under Ange Postecoglou. The Wales international did not start the season strong and was continuously getting trolled and abused by the fans on social media. But it is fair to say that the 24-year-old has proved his critics wrong in the best way possible and become one of the first names on the team-sheet.

The ex-Nottingham Forest star instantly became a Spurs icon after scoring the only goal in the Europa League final on Wednesday night. Johnson arrived from the back post to intercept a cross and managed to squeeze past the shot against a scrambling Andre Onana. It wasn’t pretty, but that goal will stay in the memory of all the fans for a long time.

Thanks to that goal, the Lilywhites ended their 17-year wait for a major trophy and brought back silverware to N17. Winning the competition also ensured Champions league football for next season for the North London club. Now, fans will hope that Brennan Johnson and the other players can build on this and kickstart a new era at N17.

Ange Postecoglou praises Brennan Johnson’s impact at Tottenham this season

It is now 18 goals for Brennan Johnson at Tottenham this season. The Wales international is the club’s top goal-scorer and there is no doubt that he will always be remembered for his last goal on Wednesday night. The 24-year-old has not stopped scoring for the Lilywhites this season and has helped Ange’s men carve out some crucial results during the campaign.

Now, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has also taken the time out to praise Johnson for his efforts. Speaking in his pre-match presser, Big Ange said (as transcribed by Football.london),

“Brennan is kind of indicative of what I’ve been trying to build here. It’s been surprising to me because his contribution has been significant since we signed him. You stack up his record since he’s been here to any other winger apart from Mo [Salah], who is a freak, and Brennan’s stands up. Goals and assists, that is what you need from attacking players and not just in any game, but the big games as well.”

The Tottenham manager added,

“It’s a credit to him and again, fair to say he’s one of the ones who has enjoyed himself in the last couple of days, but rightly so. And I’m hoping him doing that on such a big stage, he comes back next year as a mentality monster of I know what it takes to win, this is what I want again and that feeds onto everyone else.”

Ange Postecoglou suggested that Brennan Johnson has always been a significant part of the team and he has always contributed with goal or assists in the big games. The Spurs manager then acknowledged the Welshman’s hard work. Big Ange hopes that Johnson comes back next season with the same mentality to win more trophies and perform on the big stage.

Now that the season it about to be over, fans will hope that the club makes some changes in the summer. Daniel Levy cannot get complacent heading into the transfer window if Tottenham want to close the gap on its rivals. A massive overhaul is needed to address the problems at the club. However, Brennan Johnson can rest assured as he would be relied upon heavily next season to kickstart a new era at N17.
