Tottenham will look to build on the Europa League success to kickstart a new era at N17
Tottenham Hotspur finally ended its 17-year wait for a major trophy after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final last week in Bilbao. The historic win also capped off their season on a high and it managed to save their blushes heading into the summer. The Lilywhites were defensively resolute throughout the game and the hunger to end their long-standing trophy drought was clear to see.
However, the Premier League campaign was a clear contrast to the European journey. The North London club finished just a place above the relegation zone and failed to hit the 40-point mark as well. It is fair to say that Ange Postecoglou’s men put all their eggs in one basket and wrote off the domestic campaign midway through the season.
The gamble eventually paid off as Spurs secured a major trophy, as well as, managed to qualify for Champions League football next season. There are still question marks over Ange Postecoglou’s future at N17 and many believe that the Australian is not the right man for the job. It was reported earlier last week as well that Daniel Levy was leaning towards sacking Big Ange in the summer, despite the Europa League success.
Paul Robinson believes Tottenham are still a ‘massive’ club
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is under tremendous pressure despite the Europa League success. The noise around N17 suggests that the Australian would be relieved from his duties in the summer. But it is fair to say that the 59-year-old is still adamant to be at the helm and believes he is the right man to take the North London club forward.
Only time can tell what the future holds for the ex-Celtic boss at Hotspur Way. However, ex-Spurs player Paul Robinson believes the club will find a way to attract new managers. Speaking to Tottenham News, Robinson said,
“Tottenham’s a huge club, we talk about it all the time, the facilities off the field, the stadium, the training ground, the infrastructure, the club, everything. It’s regardless of how they treat managers, people will always want to manage Tottenham Hotspur. It’s a massive football club, it’s a massive draw, and the attraction for that would be, look how poor they were domestically this season, that can only be improved upon next year.”
The ex-Spurs player added,
“You can’t get lower than they finished in the league without getting relegated, so it will be appealing for anybody. Regardless of where Tottenham finish and how the managers are sacked or how the managers leave, that job will always be appealing because it’s such a massive football club.”
Paul Robinson suggested that world-class managers will always be attracted by Tottenham due to their training grounds, new stadium, and the facilities off the field. The ex-player then suggests that Spurs are a massive club and the Premier League position can always be improved in the following year. Robinson believes that the Lilywhites cannot go any lower than 17th, so it will only be upwards from there and big managers would still be attracted to take on the project.

But before talking about any new managers, Daniel Levy must make sure that Ange Postecoglou’s fate at N17 is decided. The Spurs chairman cannot delay the decision any longer as the transfer window is approaching and the Lilywhites need to act bring in reinforcements in the summer. Fans will hope that Levy takes the right decision regarding the managerial situation as Spurs will look to build on the Europa League success.
