“Recognised myself”- Dutch legend offers high praise for Tottenham star after successful N17 stint

Micky van de Ven has become an integral part of the setup under Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has attracted a lot of plaudits during his stay at N17. The Netherlands international has become a mainstay in the defensive line under Ange Postecoglou and he is one of the first names on the team-sheet for the Lilywhites. However, one of the major concerns for the centre-back is his injury record.

It is clear to see that Spurs play better with the 24-year-old in the starting eleven. There is a sense of composure and leadership in the backline with Van de Ven’s presence. But the ex-Wolfsburg star has endured a lot of injuries during his time at N17. The Spurs No.37 has endured a ‘stop-start’ campaign this season as well for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The after-effects of his absence have become a constant worry for Spurs as they become considerably weak at the back. The 24-year-old managed to rack up just 13 Premier League appearances during that time as he missed some crucial games midway through the season.

Ruud Gullit is singing high praises of Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has etched his name in the club’s history books after his heroics in the Europa League final. The Dutchman’s acrobatics on the goal-line to save a certain goal will be remembered by the fans for years to come as Spurs edged past Manchester United to end their long-standing trophy drought.

Now, football icon Ruud Gullit is also caving in to the hype and singing Van de Ven’s praises. Talking exclusively to Voetbal Primeur, Gullit said,

“The first time I saw him, I recognised myself, because I always played defender too. He always went forward, was very fast. I thought he’s a good footballer, but I didn’t expect it to go so fast either. He’s very fast, big, strong, so he already had all the ingredients to become very good.”

Ruud Gullit is full of praise for the Spurs defender and suggests that he sees himself while watching Van de Ven play. The football icon points out that the 24-year-old likes to venture forward and he is very quick as well. Gullit then suggests that the ex-Wolfsburg star is a good player and has all the abilities to become a world-class player in the future.
