Heung-Min Son might end up leaving Tottenham in the coming days for pastures new

Tottenham legend Heung-Min Son finally managed to win his first major trophy donning the Lilywhite jersey last month. The South Korea international has been through a lot of ups and downs at N17 since arriving in 2015. The 32-year-old lost in the Champions League final in 2019, came close to winning the Premier League a couple of times, and also lost out in the Carabao Cup final in 2021.

However, the near misses and heartbreak only made Son’s desire to win with the Lilywhites stronger. And the Spurs winger finally managed to end the trophy drought by lifting the Europa League last month. The South Korean also became the first Tottenham captain to lead the club to silverware in 17 years.

His decision to stay put and be patient during the tough times was worth it in the end as the North London club defied all odds and became European champions. Although the 32-year-old did not enjoy a stellar individual season under Ange Postecoglou, the fans will not forget his contributions over the years to help Spurs reach the promised land.

Heung-Min Son is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham amid Saudi links

It was reported earlier that Heung-Min Son is leaning towards a Tottenham exit in the coming weeks as Saudi clubs are looking to land the South Korean. The 32-year-old recently signed a one-year extension at N17, taking his deal up to 2026. However, the Lilywhites might look to cash in on the winger if good money is put on the table for his services.

But, reliable journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that the new manager will decide Heung-Min Son’s future at N17. Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said,

“He’s got one year left on his contract. Maybe this is a final chance that Spurs will get to cash in on the South Korean star, and look at the money. If the big money comes in from the Saudi Pro League, it’s going to be hard for Spurs to turn down. He didn’t have his best season last season for Tottenham. There’s no getting away from that. He didn’t hit the normal numbers that he normally does, but he did help the club win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.”

The transfer correspondent added,

“So, for me, if I was Spurs, it would have to be a big offer to even consider selling them. I know he maybe didn’t perform his best last year, but I still think he’s got a role to play at Tottenham. There’ll be a lot of upheaval at Tottenham this summer. We don’t know what’s happening with the managerial situation at the minute as well. If a new manager comes in, he might want to keep some because his experience will be vital to that young squad.”

Pete O’Rourke suggested that this summer might be the only chance that Tottenham will have to cash in on Heung-Min Son. The reliable journalist added that the Lilywhites would look to accept a good offer from Saudi clubs as the South Korean did not endure a good individual season. But O’Rourke also suggested that the new manager would assess the situation and might decide to keep the winger for next season due to his vast experience and impact in the dressing room.

It remains to be seen what Daniel Levy decides to do regarding Son’s future at N17. It was reported earlier that Brentford boss Thomas Frank is all set to be appointed as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement in the coming days. If that stands true then Heung-Min Son might just stay out for next season and help Spurs build on the Europa League success.
