Tottenham Hotspur urged to reconsider Ange Postecoglou sacking

It has been a week of ups and downs for Tottenham fans. The season is barely over and the Lilywhites have already been in the media spotlight due to their managerial situation. When the North London club won the Europa League last month, many fans had hoped that it would be the start of a new era at N17 under Ange Postecoglou. A lot of fans had also expected Big Ange to stay at the helm and build on the success.

For the first time in maybe 17 years, there was a real connection between the fans and the club after the Europa League success. Thousands of fans raided the North London streets in celebration during the trophy parade and serenaded Ange Postecoglou. The ex-Celtic boss was also adamant to stay at N17 and famously announced that ‘season three’ would be better than the previous two seasons.

Tottenham sacked Ange Postecoglou last week after the club endured a disastrous domestic campaign.

However, Daniel Levy thought otherwise and questionably sacked Big Ange just two weeks after the Europa League success. The decision is still being met with a lot of scrutiny by the fans and it is clear that the club chairman has not made the right call. It was reported last week that many Spurs players were also planning to revolt against the decision, with some planning to leave the club immediately.

Australian Mayor calls for Tottenham to reverse the Ange Postecoglou sack decision

Well, only at Tottenham can there be so much drama and scrutiny regarding the managerial situation. It is clear that the fans are not happy with the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, but it might just be the right decision taken by Daniel Levy after the Lilywhites finished the Premier League campaign just a place above the relegation zone.

Now, the Mayor of Melbourne has also urged Spurs to reconsider their decision of sacking Ange Postecoglou. Posting it on their Instagram account (via Goal.com), Mayor Nicholas Reece said,

“On behalf of the people of Melbourne, and Premier League fans around the world, I call on Tottenham Hotspur to reconsider its decision to sack coach Ange Postecoglou. Never underestimate Ange’s determination to win, and his ability to carry teams to greatness. We have seen this time again over his career.

Ange Postecoglou ended Tottenham’s 17-year wait for a major trophy by winning the UEL last month.

The mayor added,

“This year Tottenham made history by winning the Europa League trophy – its first such win in 17 years. We will see further trophies if Ange is given the chance. Don’t let Tottenham be known as the team that is allergic to silverware.”

Mayor Nicholas Reece urged Tottenham to reconsider its decision to sack Ange Postecoglou. The Mayor of Melbourne suggested that Big Ange’s determination to win should not be underestimated as the Australian tactician made history at N17 by ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy. Mayor Reece believes that Spurs will win more trophies if the 59-year-old is given a chance again, or else the club faces the prospect of becoming ‘allergic to silverware.’

It looks like more than likely that Ange Postecoglou’s chapter at Tottenham is now over and the club has decided to move on quickly. Spurs are on the verge of completing a deal to hire Brentford boss Thomas Frank as their new manager as they look to kickstart a new era at N17. The Danish tactician will also look to build on the Europa League success and help the club win more trophies in the coming seasons.
