Tottenham join the race for Thomas Frank favourite who can fulfill several roles at N-17

Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard
Tottenham Hotspur appear to be on the verge of appointing Thomas Frank in a season of changes this summer in North London.
With the Dane set to take the reins at Spurs after more than seven years across the capital at the Gtech Community Stadium (formerly Griffin Park), speculation is mounting over which of his trusted Brentford lieutenants could follow him to White Hart Lane.
The 51-year-old’s expected arrival will see the club embark on a new chapter after two up-and-down seasons under Ange Postecoglou, and it is very much possible he will seek to bring in players who he trusts and already know his tactical philosophy and system. Thomas Frank is expected to play a major role in reshaping the Tottenham squad as per his image and vision and should have specific targets in mind. Along with Daniel Levy and Johan Lange, he will aim to recruit players that fit his playing style.

After links with Brentford stars Bryan Mbeumo and Nathan Collins, it is not surprising that another player from the Bees’ squad has emerged on the Lilywhites’ radar. According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are among a host of Premier League clubs monitoring the situation of midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard.
Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are keeping a close watch on the 24-year-old’s potential availability, while Serie A duo Napoli and AC Milan remain interested too. The versatile midfielder was a revelation this past season and finally shown the superb form he displayed for Denmark in Euro 2020.
The Denmark international showed fantastic creativity and vision for Brentford, and only Mohamed Salah and Jacob Murphy delivered more than his 11 assists in the Premier League during the 2024/25 campaign. Mikkel Damsgaard, after a strong season in West London, is now valued in the range of €40-50 million, the report adds.

While there is plenty of the interest in the Jyllinge-born talent, Tottenham could hold an advantage in securing his signature due to the Thomas Frank factor. After more than two seasons of underwhelming displays, Damsgaard finally exploded in Brentford colours and became a mainstay in Frank’s side. He featured in all the 38 games, operating in multiple positions across midfield and attack. At 24, the Dane is still far away from hitting his prime and the time could be right for him to move to a bigger club than Brentford.

That would make Tottenham an ideal club for Damsgaard to take his development to another level, and working with a manager who he knows well should only benefit. The ex-Sampdoria man would inject dynamism, creativity and energy to the Spurs side, whilst improving the depth of their squad for next term.
He’d be a smart option to compete and provide cover for James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, and his ability to operate out wide, box-to-box No.8, attacking midfielder and on the rare occasion as a false 9 will bode well for a Frank side. Keeping all the factors in mind, Tottenham must push for Damsgaard’s signature this summer.
