“Ahead of schedule”- Tottenham ace gives positive injury update ahead of upcoming 2025/26 season

Date:

Star playmaker Dejan Kulusevski will want to hit new heights under incoming Tottenham boss Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski has issued an encouraging update on his recovery from knee surgery.

It certain was a memorable 2024/25 campaign for the Lilywhites for both the right and wrong reasons. This is because Spurs won their first major trophy since 2008 in the form of UEFA Europa League, but they endured an abysmal domestic campaign – their worst ever – as they ended in 17th place after losing a whopping 22 Premier League games.

The club’s injury crisis was one of the major reasons for the North Londoners’ wretched Premier League form and results, which eventually became the factor in deciding the fate of Ange Postecoglou.

With players dropping out of the squad due to injury problems at regular intervals, the business end of the past season saw the injury crisis ease up, before Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall all picked up fresh issues ahead of the Europa League final. This led to the trio missing the showpiece event in Bilbao, and despite missing three key midfielders, Postecoglou managed to beat Manchester United 1-0 last month.

Dejan Kulusevski is expected to miss Tottenham’s start of the new season

Kulusevski picked up a knock in the game against Crystal Palace, but it turned out to be a serious one as he had to go under the knife. The Sweden international is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, meaning his timescale for return remains unknown.

The creative midfielder has now provided an update on his injury, stating that his recovery from his injury setback in May is going well. The 25-year-old claims his recovery is already ahead of schedule, as he eyes swift return to action. However, the Swede is expected to miss the start of the season, but he has not ruled out returning to action in September.

“It’s great, I’m ahead of schedule and can start walking now. It’s been a few months since I’ve been on the sidelines,” Kulusevski told Viaplay (h/t Fotbollskanalen).

“It’s early, but we’ll see,” the Spurs man added when asked if he would be back for the World Cup qualifiers in September.

Tottenham officials will not want to rush Kulusevski back and risk a relapse of injury. They will want to give him as much time as possible to heal fully and come back stronger, especially with a new boss set to replace the departed Postecoglou very soon.

Thomas Frank is the man set to be in the dugout for Spurs next season, and he will want to make the Scandinavian connection between him and Kulusevski work for years to come. The Sweden ace will want to recover quickly and hit new heights in Spurs colours under Frank.
