“Not good enough”- Ex-scout slams Tottenham star as club seek permanent transfer solution

Tottenham are aiming to keep Mathys Tel at N17 beyond this summer after the UEL success

Tottenham forward Mathys Tel has still not proved that he can be trusted regularly heading into next season. The talented winger was signed on loan from Bayern Munich in January, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer if the Frenchman performed well. Well, the Lilywhites are looking to keep the 20-year-old at the club beyond the summer, despite Tel not being able to perform consistently.

It might come as a bit of surprise to the Spurs fans that the club is looking to invest a significant amount of funds to keep Mathys Tel at N17 for next season and beyond. The youngster joined the North London club as an emergency cover for Dominic Solanke and Richarlison. Ange Postecoglou used the Frenchman as the lone striker up top during their absence.

However, after failing to make any impact on the game as a number nine, the talented attacker was shifted to the left wing as soon as Solanke and Richarlison recovered. Well, it is fair to say that Tel performed much better on the left flank and there was considerable improvement in his game while operating from the wings.

Tottenham urged to not sign Mathys Tel on a permanent deal

Mathys Tel is widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe right now. The 20-year-old has a high ceiling and can easily turn out to be a world-class player if he is thriving in the right environment. Keeping him at N17 would just prove to be a masterstroke by the Lilywhites as they look to lay the foundations for the future by signing young players.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King does not think that Tottenham should keep hold of Mathys Tel heading into next season. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,

“I heard that Lange is trying to keep Tel at Tottenham. That is a waste of time for me. Richarlison, Dominic Solanke and Tel – three forwards who would cost £150million. If Tel can’t get in the Bayern Munich side, why should he start for Tottenham? All this talk about Lange working hard to make sure the Tel deal is permanent. Why? I don’t think he is good enough.”

Bryan King has suggested that signing Mathys Tel on a permanent deal will be a ‘waste of time.’ The ex-scout urged Spurs to cut their losses quickly and instead invest the funds on better players in the summer. King also pointed that the Frenchman could not get into the Bayern Munich side, so the Lilywhites should not be pursuing a deal for the 20-year-old.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the talented attacker. It was reported earlier that Bayern Munich had reduced their asking price for the Frenchman as Spurs looked to seal the deal for his services. But there has been no agreement in place yet as the Lilywhites were focused on sorting out the managerial situation first.
